I liked them both I must add, but for completely different reasons.

Heida's was neat and tidy, more like a nice final piece of work that had been thought out and well finished off. A little too artificially soft for my tastes which i commented on.

Yours I felt had the natural quality and somehow captured more 'personality' than Heida's.

Both stern efforts.

More interesting I found was Nazgul's comment on Heida's being "Congrada on your 10th and definitely not your last Ribbon."

And on yours being "tasteless"

ironic huh?

Seemingly so.

I gave heida's shot a 9, and Toddh's an 8.

The difference in terms of personal appeal: not much, but I preferred the posing in heida's. For your shot I would have preferred a bit of a wider shot, not cutting off her elbow and placing her head away from the corner of the frame. Again, it wasn't a big thing for me, I really like your shot.

I like the dark tones and I think the grain adds to the warmth and tenderness of your shot. Her pensive expression is wonderful too. You should be proud of this one.

I think in a digital challenge it's also apparent that the noise is probably faked, which could hinder scores?

Makes no odds to me, but could expect others perhaps to dislike it.

I dont understand why you are comparing my pictures to yours
they have nothing in common except they are both pregnant
Its like comparing the brown ribbon to the third place cause they are both male
Btw Nazgul found my picture tasteless too But he can say congrats even though he dont like the picture

For your information I think ALL photos of Nude pregnant women are tasteless.

But why should that matter what I think?
I am sure my single vote was not a strong factor in your low score

Heida, i compared it because of the content, I like your picture, it's well done. I think mine is better and that's why I compared them, I also think mine is better than ALOT of the images that finished above it. Is that a concieted attitude? You bet it is.....

Perhaps you should learn some TACT.....

It's a nice B&W shot, but my critics suggestion for yours would have been to select a different pose--yours doesn't really highlight the curves and form of the pregnant woman as Heida's does; I also find the crop too tight in the upper left, especially concerning her hand; I also didn't care particularly for the grain, but I don't think I held it against this; for me it was mostly the pose and perspective you chose that got you a just above average score for me FWIW. Heida's shot on the other hand was in my top picks.

I am just getting tired of when I have a picture that gets a ribbon
There is a thred about how it got so high or that I should take up painting and throw away my camera or something :p

Even if he had put why I could have handled it, it's a pretty rude comment all by itself though

Toddh.. If you're really going to hang on to an attitude like that, even with all the helpful critique and views shown by the people responding to your thread, even after you've showed that you *really* didn't want them in the first place, I believe you'd probably be better off somewhere else.

You said that you were done, well, good luck wherever you go if you are done here, because an attitude like that helps *nobody*.. especially yourself.

I'm just sorry it couldn't be different, because I do think you have a great deal of talent. You just need to learn some humility.

Please, I was not implying double standards. Merely to the comic way they were both phrased :D

i just wish one of my photos got to the point where I could have this sort of debate.

But mine don't, so I just sit at the bottom of the pile and smile...if I didn't I would cry. I am learning, so for the time being I am injecting some humour into my challenge entries...until the day comes when you will all bow before me and beg forgiveness for all the low votes in previous challenges.

Why can't everyone just chill out, it's a hobby, an interest. It ain't life or death.

As much as I think that Nazgul's comment was tactless, I think equally about your recent statement. But tact isn't a quality that is enforced or even required, unfortunately. If you look back, I took a little heat from Melismatica about a comment I left on her picture, and we had a PM conversation and ironed things out. Perhaps you and Nazgul can do the same.

On another note, You are free to think your picture is better than every pictuer ranked higher. But remember that the challenge is voted on by other people, who might not share your vision, or your level of appreciation of your own art. If the answers you've already gotten aren't good enough, you're free to keep searching. But personally, I think that, since the challenge is now over, and there's about a Icecube's chance in a Blast furnace of you overturning every picture ahead of yours, you should now concentrate on future challenges.

Rise above your current situation.

yes, computerking and Artyste you are both right.....

it ain't gunna change.... and I should just take it like a man....

apologies to Heida whom I think is an excellent exponent of photography and photoshop.

Those here who know me know this is not my style.

As to the Nazgul thing, all he needs to is remove or change his incredibly tactless comment and I will say no more.

No secret there. You get high scores and ribbons because the VAST majority of voters prefer your images to the competitions'. With several hundred people voting on anonymous entries, every shot ends up with a fair placement (good or bad).

Heida, your average score is higher than many members' personal bests. It amazes me that you keep turning over the best shots in your portfolio with even better ones. You may very well be the only member of this site with six consecutive 7+ challenges scores- amazing. Keep up the good work!

Nazgul- I understand your opinion of pregnant nudes, but your comment in this case offers nothing that might help the photographer improve. I can't really blame Toddh for getting defensive over a critique like that.

I don't mind what you personally think of pregnant women, I'd just prefer you didn't use my image as a forum for your personal tastes, or at the very least be somewhat tactful about it.

I never said I thought pregnant women are tasteless dont get me all wrong here.
I think posting a photo of a pregnant woman on the internet is tasteless. Too personal to share with the whole world.

Hey, maybe you should have tried typing that in the comment section when voting on the photograph instead of what you did....... but I see you have at least replaced the comment so for that I thank you, even if you went from tactless to childish.

I do portraits for a living so I'll coment.. It's in my opinion that people voted based on 'own or not'. I think people look at the photo and think if they would do that themselves, or buy it from the studio that took it of them. I don't exactly agree with the methods used in voting for challenges but I believe this to be true. As for me, going on my own methodical thinking, I would buy the standing one so it would get a higher vote. I don't think the lying down shot is done very well. Perhaps for the purpose of nudity (fits the challenge), but it's not as 'sentimental'. And with alot of portraits, people place themselves in it. If they don't like the pose, they don't like the shot. unfair but true. sorry.
