I have a Canon 6d and I cant download the Canon EOS remote software because I'm in Jamaica. Don't know how many countries this extends to. Would an IP masking software allow me to access the app??
I got this message from Canon customer support
"Dear David Madden:
We appreciate your continued correspondence regarding the EOS Remote app for Android.
This application is only available in some service areas. It may not be available for download in Jamaica. Unfortunately, I am unable to assist you in circumventing this restriction to download the application. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your EOS 6D. Thank you for choosing Canon.
Sincerely,
Dirk

You can get a friend who lives in the US to download it for you and you can sideload it. Since this probably violates licensing for both the app and the Google Play store, I won't go any further about *how* to do this, nor will I volunteer to be your American friend. I'm just sayin'... This is probably not very hard for someone with an American friend and a reasonable acquaintance with Google. |

Thanks! I'll look into that :) I still dont see why i have to jump through these hoops though. Curious to know if anybody outside of North America have this issue. Also! I think Canon is guilty of false advertising. This app was advertised to be available to all 6d users. And for "all" It is most certainly not available. My conscience is clear in acquiring the app, by any means necessary.

So heres an update. I posted about this issue in the Canon forums website and somebody suggested bypassing the geo check with a vpn. I eventually solved the remote app issue, by using the "hideman app" I found on google play. I could now finally install the software after it hideman hid my ip.
I went back to the Canon forums and reported the solution by using the hideman app i found on googleplay. Two hours later the comment was removed. I then asked if I was being censored, two hours later that comment was also removed lol. Somebody saw the comment and private messaged me to find out if i deleted my own comment. So i know it went through.
Anyway! I have my app, it works well. The make up artist and hair stylist, were quite happy to be able to sit in an air conditioned vehicle and review images . While I shot in the middle of nowhere. |
