i had another idea in mind for the portrait challenge and scrapped it for IQ reasons:
the problem with this one was i could not get the reflection sharp. i even tried f11 and focused on the reflection and the reflection is still not sharp. i' wondering if this is a product of the mirror. I have better examples that show this, but its not blurry, its almost like a shifted concurrent images, see this one:
particularly the salt grains. see how there are a few reflection of the same grain? this was shot using the same mirror.
my question is is the issue im having a product of the severe angle or is my mirror flawed or is my technique flawed?

You have to get a special mirror. Wendy knows what they are called. I have the same problem when doing shots that are very close to the mirror it is a double reflection and makes the shot look blurry. I was worried the same would happen with my recent ribbon winner but it didn't I think because I was far enough away from the mirror. |

It's the angle at which you shoot; there's indeed two reflections - the silver layer and the glass surface both reflect the image. The more the angle goes toward 90 degrees, the more you will notice that. For the pretzel shot I'd used a black surface, for the portrait only a better mirror helps |

You're probably looking for a Front Surface Mirror (or similar description) For example: //www.uqgoptics.com/catalogue/Mirrors/FRONT_SURFACE_MIRRORS_-_COMMERCIAL.aspx
