Not sure if you can see my FB page but here is the link:

I was going to shoot a comet next tuesday but saw this one tonight....however, I can't find it in any "space" website.

Twitter link to my page

Found that it is likely this comet and it will get brighter as the days go by.

Been trying to see this comet for the last two nights. Haven't managed it yet.

It's been hazy with smoke and a few clouds on the western horizon here in the evenings so far. Maybe we will get a clear evening view in the next few nights if we are lucky.

This thing was bright from near New Orleans. In fact, an old friend called me up asking me to check the western sky to see if I can see "what he was seeing" !

I kept hearing that next Tuesday would be the best day but didn't realize that it would appear this soon in the early evening sky.

Very cool set, Kenny. Far too much low cloud to have a chance of seeing it here - maybe towards the end of next week.

The problem in Japan at the moment for looking for comets is the hazy skies caused by the annual Gobi Desert dust storm blowing in from China... <"¤">

It was cloudy again here this evening. : (
Thanks kenskid, Your photos give me a grip on how high above the horizon, and what to look for. It looks like it will be very good here if we do get a good clear evening soon enough.
If you shoot that again, try a 3400K or incandescent/tungsten white balance on a few shots. It will help reduce the orange in the city lighting and bring out the comet better.

Thanks for the tip. Here is one from tonight. Taken from the lakefront in Kenner, Louisiana.

Fixed it up by using Tungsten WB.

Nice -- thanks for the extra information/explanation below the picture. It's been cloudy on the western horizon at sunset around here for days, but maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

Finally!! After a couple of days of trying -- we found it. Couldn't see it with the naked eye. Found it by taking pictures of the sky and scanning pixel by pixel. After we tracked it down, my husband could find it with the binoculars, and I could make it out with the 100-400 lens.... barely!!

You got it ! I like the third one with the long lens. It looks like a real comet !

I think there is a bigger and better one coming up in the fall !

Those are great. Monday it is supposed to be near a crescent Moon.

It went past the Moon last Tuesday. Nevermind...

Maybe. It's all very sketchy right now - but it's possible that the one later this year (November I think) could be brighter than the full moon. That'd be a hell of a sight.

I took the kids out tonight, but couldn't find it. Too many clouds near the horizon and VERY cold. :-(

I have yet to sight it, but I haven't had clear skies since Wed. :-P

The 16th. 8:33 PM E DT. The comet is very close to due west when the sun sets. Maybe the relationship to some of the stars in the full frame image will help with locating it for someone. North is to the right.

Very nice stuff JP!

Thank you, Fritz!

We've had two clear days for cometing, last Thursday night and last night. We went Thursday and froze a number of extremities in the gale-force Superior winds. Photo ops were a bust.

Last night was much(!) nicer as there was almost no wind. Once I finally found the comet the cold melted away as photo-bliss warmed up the area :)

The 19th. From S Florida. It was about 72F out, with a gentle breeze. The lights along the coast line about 25 miles away light up the haze, so there is a very short window of shooting opportunity. It can't be seen with binoculars here.

72? Degrees? I don't remember the last time I found 72 of them together! :(

Last night (Thursday the 21st) the clouds unexpectedly parted. A gentle breeze blew the 10 degrees around nicely :)

Yep, this morning I could count 'em and have fingers left over, bet you could too!
