Shutterstock related:
For those interested this is bad news.
I used to have a little tinny income (a $30/month) from referrals that i worked my butt to make and feed to them. Now gone...
They say:
"We̢۪re also going to update the term so that payouts will be earned for the first two years that a referred contributor is active on our site." and it applies for the old cases as well.
At least the decency to start from now on.
+ all the shit tax letters they sent me.
Why on earth do I need to fill in a Form 1042-S and give money to US Government?

Don't know where you live, but wouldn't be a W-8BEN form enough? I filled that for all agencies and don't have to pay US taxes.
As for the referral program, I lost almost all of my Shutterstock referrals, too, down from a monthly average of $5 to $1. Though it doesn't hurt much, it reminds of istocks bad contributor policy lately...

It's not costing me a lot as none of my referrals do very well, but some of the people complaining in the Shutterstock forums will lose hundreds of dollars every month.

My referrals toped at $100/ month and even now were a steady $30-40, more then the downloads. But back then I did work hard to recruit them. I think is not fair and is not keeping a promise.
Regarding the tax both my mother country and the country I have my residence need to pay tax. They even mailed the forms. It's not that much and it appears that is applied only to the sales in the US but is just the idea. I pay my taxes here why should I pay money to the US government. Why is not SS paying whatever they have to pay and leave me alone.
Edit for typos on my iPhone
