what struck me was the way the light danced on the web. i'm just not sure what would make it 'pop'. any suggestions?

original, crop 1, crop 2

thanks, skip

I like Crop2 better, there's more in focus. with Crop1, just the little circles in the center are focused, which leaves most of the picture a blur.

Crop 2 is definitely better - a fascinating image

ok, with crop 2, should i try to burn out the hotspots in the leaves?

this is my dilema while shooting macro outdoors: i'm trying to handle this in-camera, but not sure how to get the angle, the focus, and the composition, without the damn hotspots. unfortunately, for this web, this is the only time of day this shot will happen...is this more a matter of chucking it and saying better luck next time? what would you do?

I like #3 - I think it's an excellent abstract!

Not to take away from your post but to illustrate another example... I took a few spider web pics last night. the web was huge and I took quite a few before the spider started getting a little spooked which spooked me because I had this irrational fear that he was going to jump on me or something. EEWWWW! Spiders give me the willies!! Anyway, what do ya'll think?

p.s. I was going for more abstract than precision exposure of the spider.

Anymore comments on Skprow's spiderweb pics?
What do ya'll think of mine?
Anybody else got any web pics they'd like to share?

As another person with an inhuman fear of spiders I doubt I got get anything like this without a huge telephoto lens and a tripod. but, all that aside I like your photo better because it's less blurry. I really don't like larger apertures because blur is too much like bad eye sight. I would really like to see both styles combined. smaller apertures and more angled shots.

I like the original angle of skiprow's spider and web the best but would crop about 1/3rd off the bottom and some off the right side.....kinda like .......hope you don't mind skprow, will take the image down when I get home from work.
