Why don't you ask mrchhas, he brought the term into play
Originally posted by mrchhas: His photography (the non-stupid stuff) was stellar, |
His photography sure ain't bad (off of dpc), I said that before
Originally posted by h2: Was it the guy that entered his good photos at PWO and the bad and offending ones at DPC? |
but I don't consider it to leave a longer lasting impression

Yes, I am still annoyed about that as you beat me too. BUT, my entry got lower score than Venser's so he failed inn a big way. |
I think I've staying at a "Failed Inn" many times on business. |

his presence was a protest.
i think he failed to enter his best work because he knew it would not received the praise it deserved.
his images outside dpc (and yes i would consider them stellar) were far better than what gets submitted here as the usual cookie cutter ribbon aspirations we always see.
i think his main flaw was that instead of entering his best work and trying to change opinions through success he convinced himself right off the bat he would never be able to and thus refused to try. so he decided to try to mock the system.
its fun having someone around who rocks the boat everyone once and a while. Sometime we take ourselves to seriously here.

+1...and gawd help you all if I ever leave, I will throw the biggest snit fit ever!!! ;-p
Now, re Venser...FWIW I think he had some trouble being able to take what he was dishing out. He had a sub-4 average for votes cast, and seemed to be having trouble dealing with getting low votes himself. I think he was unable to cope with the (justified, imnsho) cosmic spankings he got. |
... and your initial comment would be mere speculation on your part my dear.
Trust me when I say that he had no problems whatsoever with the opinions of others. There are some thin skinned individuals in DPC who cannot deal with any form of critique and they should once again be right happy that they managed to get rid of someone who did not meet their expectations.
I am still quite surprised at the disdain that some show for the scores meted out by others. If he was consistent with his scores then I have no problems with them in the least... I seriously doubt that his were the lowest scores meted out by a voter in DPC.
Not all are happy to see him go.

IMNSHO, Yes, people like him do come along and stir things up, and there is nothing wrong with that, it keeps the community from getting too complacent. And a few times he did give me useful feedback on potential entries.
And after reading a fascinating book on running and ultramarathons - and he said he used to be an elite marathoner - I actually was looking forward to PMing him and getting his thoughts on that aspect of the sport.
But it sounded like he made the decision to leave some time ago, and was simply biding his time and amusing himself by goading people. That behaviour is a bit too childish for my liking.
ETA: Uncle Raymee, I do agree with you to some extent. But not all. We should hack this over at Timmys, maybe this evening...work for youÉ

I must say that he always clicked comments on his images as helpful, even the very very critical ones. This to me is a sign that he understands the site. Many only click helpful on the positive ones or not at all |

The problem is that one one side of the coin,we do need to be more thick skinned, we do need to lighten up a bit,
take ourselves a bit less seriously, and be less concerned about how others are voting.
But I do have a problem with people who have issues, say whatever they want no matter who it offends, (mostly because its online and not face to face).
Also, I have inherent issues with the "competition" aspect of art, and he took a mathematical view of scoring so much so as to advocate, at one point, only giving one or two high marks and sub 3 scores on the all the rest as to "make your vote count."
Ironically, he was respected for shaking up the establishment, making the divas and prima donna set uneasy, when in the end, well, poof.
I think like any rebel or counter culturist, perhaps it was a touch of the Stockholm syndrome, but his antics were becoming endearing.

To be honest, I have an older brother whose I-dont-give-a-f***, you-all-f***in-suck-attitude and blunt, hypercritical opinions are so like Venser (he also lives in Toronto, cue Twilight Zone music) that it is quite eerie and could be him, although I know it isnt.
This also means that I have already heard all of Vensers stuff before, so I was starting to get tired of the same-ole same-ole.
Nothing wrong with rocking the boat, but to the point where even people with good sealegs start getting queasy...well... |
