i think i already know the answer to this question, but want to confirm...

under Advanced Editing rules.

you CANNOT combine multiple captures either in camera or in pp if the scene you are
capturing change in any significant way (intentionally or unintentionally)... Exceptions for HDR and focus stacking

you CAN capture one long single exposure in which the scene changes (such as by means of
covering the lens or turning lights on and off)

That is correct.

The second is allowed in basic and minimal as well.
