Am considering buying an all in one computer. Was wondering if anyone knows if they are as reliable as the traditional computers with the tower.

As a general rule no less reliable. However in a traditional setup you can drop another screen on should something happen to the display, so while no more issues than a tradtional setup when you consider all components more than just a tower the consideration would be if it breaks do you have faith the original manufacturer will still be in business and supplying spares.

Main difference is that the all in ones dont have all the options for upgrading later, very rare to find room for adding another harddrive when you fill your existing one, will you potentualy have the budget at some near/future date to upgrade the display as it's often a much overlooked component of the digital photographic outcome.

As Stefan touched one...all in ones, by virtue of their form factor are not easily upgradable. That alone makes it a "skip" in my books.

Everyone else beat me to it, but every photographer I've ever met eventually wants a better monitor. Think about what you will do when that day comes...

Good points, thanks for the advice. The monitor replacement and upgrading is an important consideration.

WTF is an all-in-one computer?

I think that refers to the iMac-type configuration, where the computer's guts are built into the monitor case ... though it can also now apply to tablets, smart-phones, and anything else where the CPU, memory, and display are a single unit.

I can tell *someone's* not been to an Apple store lately...

I just bought apples yesterday, Honey Crisps, those are by far the best apples.

I add that to, go with Apple iMac and won't look back!

Window-based PC makers have models in this configuration as well -- last time I browsed at Fry's they ran about 60-75% more than a comparably-powered tower (no monitor) from the same manufacturer.
