This one is a strange one to me.... Apart from the slight macro and possibly - depending who you believe - the slightly better image quality..... why would you not get the 24-105 which is cheaper? I mean it's in the price range of the f2.8 lens... Just really odd to me. |

Looks very cheap and tacky, the 24-105L is a proven lens and does get pretty close anyway, if you want macro buy a macro lens, If I was still shooting Canon this would be the last lens I would look at. It will be a cheapo L kit lens. Sorry to be negative but I must agree with robs, this is an oddball. |

i cant say i disagree with either. i cant fathom why canon would expect anyone to rush out and get this, especially with the 2.8mkii version on the horizon.
currently its priced about $500 too high. |

The 2.8 mkii is out in the 24-70 range and a cracking lens reading the reviews of it.
Yeah it's going to be the 6d kit lens for those with more money than knowledge |

I donno about that. The new f/4L is considerably smaller and lighter and it has IS. It aligns naturally with the direction the 6D has gone; a smaller, lighter, FF camera for the non-professional. The 2.8 mkii, for all that it's a very attractive lens, is a honking BIG piece of glass... |

Here's the question behind the question... will the 24-105 continue as a current model? I suspect it may not. In fact there's not that much difference in the focal length range. You might find that there's not as much difference at the long end as the numbers might lead you to believe.

Yeah I suspect your right but at this point we have that option, so it's a straight compare. I somewhat agree for this focal length... we all get caught up in the nbrs and forget that a few steps back or forward can make them closer then we think.... but I still ain't swapping my 24-105 for this one [and I am a big fan of the f4 zooms] :-) |
