And really, no RAW in LR3? I'm thinking of getting a 6D, too, but don't want to upgrade LR (again), if it's not necessary. |
Since Adobe does not continue to release new ACR versions for old versions of Lr, there will never be support for cameras released after the release of Lr 4. But seriously, you *do* want to upgrade to Lr 4. I used Lr 3.6 until recently on my old work laptop because I had to (it ran 32-bit WinXP which Lr 4.X does not support). That was painful! Lr 4.X is well worth the upgrade, IMO, just for the updated ACR engine. |
So are you saying LR does not support raw files from the 6D? I have LR 4.3. Will that support the 6D? |

LR does not release new modules for old versions, so it would be an issue with LR3, but not with LR4 |

I did touch the 5DMKIII but I am glad with my choice. And its not quite sour grapes. It's smaller and lighter and suites best my needs.

I sold my OMD E-M5 12-50mm kit and my partner gave me a 6D as Chinese new year gift yesterday.
I think 6D is about 95% of the 5D Mark III for less money. I own both now, can feel very little difference between them.
Compare with 5D3, 6D is smaller and the weigh is 200g less. It has build-in GPS and WIFI with smartphone app. The AF is more sensitive in low light.
They have the same metering, high ISO performance, image quality even the same battery and charger.
Finally you decided to buy a full frame DSLR. Nice choice and very good price. Congratulations, Mr. T.

Wow. Well, I can't argue since I neither own nor have I used either one but the reviews I have seen didn't share this sentiment. |

Well, how about 90%? lol
The specifications don\'t mean anything.
Yes, I know 6D lost some from 5D3 but I think they are not big deals.
5D3 has 61 zones AF which I think is too complicated since 6D has 11 zones.
6D has 2 custom memories, 5D3 has 3.
6D only have 1 SD card slot. The finder screen has no grid. No M-fn button. Cheaper and smaller LCD screen without automatic bright control. The top speed is 1/4000s and the sync speed is 1/180......
But, the price is $1500 cheaper!!!!! And 6D has very awesome WIFI module which worth ¥900 (compare with WFT-E7C for 5D3).
I don\'t think some differences in the specifications are significant, really.

A 6D as gift sounds very good to me! it is in did a good camera but I won't say it is 95% of Mark III but yes close to that for sure with less money! |

everyone i have heard talk about the AF on the 5D3 has done nothing but praise it, many say it feels like the camera knows what you want to focus, I've never heard anyone call it too complicated |

Most of the times I use single AF and manual spot AF area. |

I've heard this too, but I'd really have to use this magic system for a few days before being sure it worked, especially after all this time having basically 1 useable focus point on the 550D |

the best thing is not the auto function, but the flexibility with the joystick and manual control on the go. It really really spoils you. I may have to purchase an older body just to keep myself friendly with the older devices. The 5diii whoops butt when it comes to on the go controls. I 've heard the 6d has superior noise control though, haven't took the time to confirm that yet. Depends on priorities right? |

Sigh! Maybe I'll have to wait for the heavenly number of 3D (Jokes on me), alternatively sell my body on the street corners to desperate young women. Sigh....
Congratulations Tibby, you are a super friend. Also to all the other new 6D'ers.
Sigh... ;_{ |

Does it annoy anyone else that they only put in one card slot, and it's an SD? What is this a Nikon? I want to be able to slot my CF cards.

Thanks Doc. You take care!
BrennanOB it does not annoy me. I used 40D and I had 3X8G cards, 1X4G and 2X2G. It's OK to switch to CF. It is also more convenient to plug them in a laptop. Would be nice to have two slots but is fine as it is. When I purchased it came with 2X16G, i already had one for my VDO camera and I also share the Oly EPL1 8G card.
As I said befire I am personally very happy with the purchase. With the 40mm 2.8 pancake is easy to carry and take it where I usually got uswed with the 4/3 Oly.

I think why they're doing this is because no one is carrying CF cards anymore. I went out shooting, drove for about an hour, and forgot my card case, and didn't have a card in the camera.
Walgreens, etc, didn't carry cards, and target had one extremely overpriced 8 GB card that made me feel a little nauseous thinking about paying that much knowing what I could buy it for online. You just don't have much of a choice in the non-camera stores anymore. |

Starting to improve my hip iphone wifi 6d techniques
The trick is that you can remotely close the live view an the camera will focus normal. Better accuracy.
Next time I'll do some screen shots of the iphone if anyone is interested.

SanDisk 16G Ultra, class 10 up to 30Mb/s in about 20 sec the camera gave a movie will automatically stop warning and then it stopped.
Instructions manual says that if card is slow this occuracy is normal. I will probably buy a Pro class 32G see what happens. The current one came with the camera as a package so it is what it is.
Edit for content.

More impressions:
I had a chance to handle my friends 5DMK2 and can confirm that 6D is smaller and lighter and could be an issue for handling maybe with big lenses. The MK2 might have a bit of more "pro" feeling for some. All the above are not an issue for me. I travel a lot and lighter is better.
I do miss the joystick. It feels more rugged the the 8 direction wheel. Miss it mostly for changing the focus point.
I did install finally the eos software and used the pc to shoot remotely. A breeze. Nice and awesome could be great for studio work and macro or other. All fine by cable. With the wifi the speed of transferring the files to pc was horrible. So it seems that the wifi has its really usefulness connected to a smartphone. That function I like more and more. It's a breeze to get the files on the phone as they are downsized to a very usable 2 megapixels (I think) and size is less then 800Mb. Can also easily browse the pics on the card and have them by a click in your camera roll. From there I can edit them on iPhoto or not and straight away on FB to annoy all me friends.
Remote shooting is getting there as a skill and really conceals your shooting. Can easily pretend you monkey with your phone and snap snap. Cool to see people in your shot looking at your big thing camera, relaxed that you are not shooting them haha.
The focus is slow, very slow and imprecise on liveview but the app has a function that allows you to have the camera focusing normally and more precise. Can pick the focus points. So, get the frame composition, close the live view on the phone and snap snap snap.
As I am still testing intensively so I did hit the 1/4000 when I opened in bright sun a bit contre jour at F2.8. But I did switched to ISO50 and was ok. I also popped and circular polarizer and could have probably go down to 1.8 1.4 if it was on my lens :)
Typing on my phone so sorry if I can't make myself clear.
It's an awesome camera! I did not know that FF is so different. The pics look awesome and there is certain feeling that I cannot describe.
I'm glad I did not save and went the 4/3 wih the OMD. I still think it's a great camera but is not yet there. Talking about 4/3 focusnmg, the live view focus is not that great on 6D. Here the 4/3 should have the edge.
Cheers
Tibi
