I sent this message to MattO as he would be the first person I could think of who might know this. But in the interest of getting all the help I can I am putting it out there.
I picked u a used Nikon D3 body this past week from the sports editor at a major newspaper. I seem to be having a technical issue that NO ONE (even Nikon tech support) can seem to answer for me. If I put my 300 af-s on my Nikon D700 it works beautifully. If I put it on my D3 the camera/lens will not auto focus. If I put ANY other of my lenses on the D3 everything works fine. It is just the combo of the D3/300 that is giving me issues. I cleaned the contacts, reset all menu options, took it to the camera store and perplexed them. I have a 14 day return policy with the camera body but I am looking for input from you. Have you every heard of anything like this? I did forget to mention that it had recently been serviced by Nikon and one of the items they fixed was the auto focus. But again, it works with every lens but the 300.....

is there a lot of play at the mount?
do you have AF TC?

There is not a lot of play. The 300 works amazingly on my d700 and d300. |

So after trying my lens on 3 different D3 camera bodies...It is the lens. It works on other Nikon DSLR bodies (D60, D300, D600, D700) just not the D3. I took it back to Calumet in Cambridge and they are shipping it to Nikon to repair at THEIR expense. They were very very very good to me. Even stating there was no way I could have done anything, nor would the problem have been known about until I got the D3. They even offered a refund on the lens if that was my preference. They are even going to UPS it to me at the house after it comes back from repair. Excellent customer service.

Good to hear you got resolution on the issue, and even better to hear about the great service from Calumet. I've always gotten great service from Calumet's West Chigagoland location.

Yes, AFS version I.
I have to say this is my first time dealing with Calumet. It will not be my last. I am completely impressed. |
