My Nik Silver Efex 2 now shows the splash screen saying my trial has expired, and when I try to put in my key, it says there's an error in activation or a conflict. Same happens with Nik HDR Efex. Color Efex and Dfine still work, though. The only change in my computer from the last time I used them (which wasn't all THAT long ago, but it was a little while) was I installed Microsoft Security Essentials, uninstalled two malware apps, and ran a scan to get rid of a persistent redirect virus....
Anyone have any suggestions, or have this happen before? |

I have had that happen on my Mac. I believe a restart normally fixed it. |

those two programs gave me problems when i used the PSD format for editing instead of tiff... basically i got photoshop for christmas and changed my external editor preferences to edit in photoshop in psd format. i didn't know that it would also change the format used when using the nik software. anyway, silver efex and hdr both stopped working and the other two you mention worked fine. try checking to see if you've changed your preferences somewhere.... |

Nik's customer service is (or used to be, anyway) excellent. Try giving them a call. They have a whole online forum for problems you can search before you contact them. I've always gotten an answer one way or the other. |

Customer support rocks!! I sent an email - took a couple of days, but got an answer and it worked like a charm. So if anyone else ever runs into this problem, here's what you do:
Thank you for contacting Nik Software. I apologize for the inconvenience. The activation error stating "An error occurred during the activation of the product. There might be a conflict with the installation of another program...." typically indicates that the licensing service for the software has become interrupted. To fix this errorcode, please do the following:
- If open, exit out of the activation window and your host application (i.e. Photoshop or Lightroom).
- Click on the Windows Start button and type “services.msc” in the search box (without the quotes). Hit Enter, and a Services window will open.
- Find the Nalpeiron Licensing Service in the list. Right-click on the service name and choose Properties.
- It will say Disabled instead of Running.
- Change the service type from Disabled to Automatic. Click Apply.
- Then click the Start button, and click OK.
Once completed you can close the windows and then launch your host again. Now you will want to launch the plug-in; it should open without asking for the key. |

Glad to hear they fixed you up Deb :) I've always been happy with Nik's customer service too. Even after the sale to Google and hopefully it will stay good too. |

It's always better to call Nik for customer service than emailing them. They are very responsive and helpful. |
