I am about the get the cash form insurance after my camera together with other goodies were stolen from my house and, oddly enough, while my mind is set to buy the 6D second thoughts run trough my head. The gear stolen is my cash made form my micro stock and micro stock referral and other little gigs photo or not related.

The hobby generated enough to buy the equipment without denting my family budget. Going through some hard financial times second thoughts now come and go...

The insurance will pay just enough to afford a 6D with the 24-105 kit. The gear that was not stolen are a Tamron 28-75 F2.8, an excellent lens on my previous 40D but not so good on full frame, a Tokina 12-24 F4 and the plastic 50mm F1.8

I did, quite convincing, offer the money to my wife, then offered half of it. She lovingly and convincingly refused and encouraged me to replace my camera and eventually... make some money with it haha

Now the question:

1) 6D kit - no cash left
2) OMD EM5 - and some extra cash left for my upcoming, already paid trip to Aussie

Sorry for boring post but it still feels good here to share :)

Congrats on getting a replacement, but sorry your other gear was lifted.

But to address your question-

I don't feel like the same person after a 6D should or would pursue an OMD, and vice versa. They're both great cameras, and in fact I've lusted over the OMD, but they're not at all the same thing.

I am aware of this... I lusted for the OMD when I had the 40D.

The question is not much about the gear but more about the finances... I don't know if I can make my self clear :(

Maybe I should just be thankful and get the 6D and enjoy it.

Thanks Derek

The OMD-5 is a wonderful camera....not only its size, but the axis stabilization system is fantastic. I say go after the camera you lust for....take it on your trip...use it a lot....and, if it turns out to be not the camera for you--- sell it on Mu43.com and buy the other!!

I highly recommend the OM-D. Outstanding camera.

If you've got the resources, pair it with the Panasonic 12-35 F2.8. A little pricey, but great optics, light weight, and the combination is completely weather sealed.

I refuse to purchase a camera from Olympus after this came to light

Love the ending:

âI was ready to run a health-care and consumer electronics company,â he says. âI had no idea I was walking into a John Grisham novel.â

Ignoring that article, I love my OM-D. Highly recommended. I currently use the Panosonic 20mm f/1.7 and Olympus 45mm f/1.8 as my lenses. Again, both are highly recommended.

Only you can pick the right camera for you. Which one feels right in your hands, has the best balance, and seems to work best for your shooting style?

Your current glass is a consideration. However, if what you really want is a different camera, then get it and don't look back. Sell the remaining glass and put it towards the new system. The last thing I would recommend is settling for other than what you really want. If you do, you will be reminded of it every time you pick up your camera.

+1 for the OM-D

The size is fantastic and you can carry it plus four more lenses all day and hardly notice it.

Cliff's notes?

Olympus had, for a while, an American President and CEO running the whole shebang, a man who'd worked his way up the corporate ladder for years. A while ago he became aware of some strange, and very large, transactions the company was making, buying other companies that were overvalued dramatically, without putting him in the loop. When queried, the other executives parried, keeping him in the dark with transparent excuses. He hired PricewaterhouseCooper to do an audit, and distributed the results of the audit, to get it out in the open. The rest of the board united against him and threw him under the bus, fired him on the spot.

It appears that the irregularities may stem from long time dealings between Olympus and the Yakuza, the Japanese gangsters. The man fears for his life and his family's welfare, and they are under guard and back in the Western world.

Very troubling story.

I'll buy the Canon! And some Olympus stock shares.

Back to my question.

I was considering Oly when I HAD the 40D and lenses and all needed.

On a funny side my wife thinks bigger is better :)

You know my answer :)

But I've only ever had Oly since I've been shooting with a DSLR so it didn't make sense for me to switch to another brand and start over with new lenses.

I think you do a pretty good job with your PEN tho.

Get the bigger camera and make your wife happy :)

Meant to say: Go big. Far easier - and cheaper - to downgrade later.

That Oly article was something else...

Interesting perspective!

Personally I would opt for the Oly system, you can get adapters and buy M42 lenses so cheap these days that are wonderful (Zeiss OM) I love these MFT systems but they do not suit my needs. The 6D is fabulous but bulky, lenses are expensive etc.. then with the spare cash you could even get an M42 adapter and a Zeiss 50mm and STILL have enough for a fosters or 3 in Aus (if they drank it there)
