My highest scoring photo was in the Pencil challenge way back in 2002. Now I need to do something like that but better.

I didnt realize implements was a noun. I would have chosen: tools, utensil, apparatus. When I hear implements I think to put into effect.

Thanks for the explanation. When I first saw this I was thinking of hearts, liver, kidneys and that kind of stuff. Had no idea how to write with that. |

I've had the same problem. Then I found this. |

surely this would extend to paper, books, ink, etc as those are also 'writing implements' ... try writing without something to write on.
Question .... would a photo of paper with writing on be permitted ... I remember reading some question in another thread about a photo of writing being disqualified because text is not permitted.

Hope that we are old enough here to get past a fan made of colored pencils. Unless it will be somehow very unusual. |

What about the person just starting out who's never shot this before. Why shoulr your boredom with a particular subject limit someone else's submissions.
Comments warning people in advance what not to submit really bother me, seem to me and in essence an attempt to influence the entries and the scores given ... as I recall that's a site no-no ... |

Correction: the suggestion was for "oldies" only. Score will be affected only by quality of picture. |

I read it as quilts.
I can hardly wait to see an entry using a quilt as a writing implement! :) |

A quilt would be silly, but a mop is impressive for classic Chinese calligraphy. |

Well, I'm looking for things you can write with... if you said "I'm going to write a book (or a letter)", something you would realistically use to write it with.
My teacher in 7th grade got mad because we were supposed to "write" our paper and I did so, by hand, but in print vs. cursive which she said was not "writing". She's a DNMC nazi leader now.
Yes, you could "write" with a finger dipped in blood, but I would not count that. Pens, pencils, keyboards, typewriters, etc... that's my personal take on this... |

It's the chance that sometimes is worth taking.
It's refreshing and creative when people think out of the box
with the challenges. BUT it's a thin line sometimes if you take it a bit
too far then you get the DNMC fans.
As far as the colored pencil shot as a noob myself I try to look at old challenges and try not to copy winning photos BUT sometimes I see a creative image that didn't do so well and try to put my spin on it.
So far it hasn't worked very well, whatcha-gonna do. |
