I'm not in this challenge. My votes showed no mercy... a few very good images, but the average level was below my expectations.

it seems the longer i am on dpc the more laughable the voting gets lolal and i wasnt trying for this one either, my second experiment in how people vote and how people enter these challenges has not let me down, no real surpirses, not even in that people clearly ignore the obvious of a challenge title, so why vote a DNMC low anyway people because clearly you cannot vote effectively or 100% anyway and it seems to be very little changes here lolal so ;O) keep up the good work and standards ;O)

I agree, I reckon some people just don't read the challenge description properly!!

Anita, is snow excluded in your opinion?

better not answer that for fear of retribution!!

and although i agree with these sentiments and the likelyhood of that, i personally have chosen to put myself in the firing line but totally understand why you wouldnt and peer pressure here can seem quite high especially with DNMC or any criticism of even the top slots... :O) ah well :O)

theres a non concensus on what is a comment for and what is the critique is for and what is DNMC and what is just artistic or whether a photo has to be processed to be good or whether it has to be 100% clean for it to win and conform... i do not agree with this standard way of viewing photos.. but maybe im in a minority here.. but i hope i have made people think a little... regardless of whether you agree with me... photography doesnt havent to be clean, unartistic, cliniical, technical nor conform to 3rds rule or anything to be a good photo and a photoshopped image is not a photo but a composite image that while nice to look at should be catagorized as such maybe... ;O)

and if its a photoshopped image and i dont think something has been realistically lit or proportions wrong unless its an artistic piece i will give a criticism, if your going to spend that amount of time on a photoshop image then its worth paying attention detail if its meant to give a realistic interpretation ;o)

At least you have comments I value more them than the actual scores. Having said that, wish I had more comments and the score wouldn't have dropped from the 6.6 that once was.

"...there's a non consensus on what is a comment for and what is the critique is for and what is DNMC and what is just artistic or whether a photo has to be processed to be good or whether it has to be 100% clean for it to win and conform."

If a comment is not a critique, then what is it for? By it's very nature a critique is a statement of your own personal opinion of any particular image. For example, would you prefer a comment like "This image sucks pond scum and I'm rating a 3" or "The author needed to take a longer look at the subject, perhaps a different angle or close in perspective as the subject matter is rather vague in comparison to the title. A little more thought and carefully evaluating the lighting would have made this a much better image. Sorry for the 3, but that's my opinion."

With respect to DNMC, that's just the silliest thing ever. 10-20% of the images in any given challenge technically don't meet the challenge criteria, but so what? I've seen images here that worked across three challenges simultaneously! I've also seen images that were so far outside the challenge criteria that in a rather perverse way, actually met the challenge criteria if you looked at it a certain way. Being flexible with rating and commenting is the way to handle it - if the image doesn't match with your personal opinion about the challenge criteria, rest assured that others believe it does. Just work with it - it's supposed to be fun and a lot of the time it is.

With respect to post processing, I'm always amused by this debate because all digital images are post processed in some way or fashion - unless they are snapshots and even then the camera is adjusting for this that and the other thing. In the era of digital photography, there is no such thing as an unprocessed image - it's just a matter of how much processing has been done. Now if you're talking about introducing objects into a currently existing photograph, that's a different issue. But if you have somebody who is really good at working with Photoshop and the other digital image manipulation software currently available, how can you tell? Once again, you gotta take the good with the bad and just roll with it. This isn't supposed to be an avocation you know. :>)
