I just got back from spending a month in America and am the proud owner of a new Canon 300D! I'm still learning all the new functions it has over my old point-and-shoot, but it's been great so far. Here are a few pics from the trip - lots more to come later:
My daughter playing in New Orleans
My other daughter playing in Birmingham
A little green froggy
And the obligatory hummingbird shot

Hi Philip,
I'm just starting back into photography (digital this time!) and I'm thinking of upgrading to a digital SLR.
I've worked with film SLR's in the past...I currently have an A40 and am looking at the digital rebel.
Are you noticing immediate quality improvements in your shots? Should I make the plunge?
Nice shots, by the way. The first one is a keeper, printer and framer! |

Hi Mike,
The main thing I am noticing is how much faster the SLR is. It takes the pictures almost instantly. And the image size and sensor quality are much improved as well.
But I wasn't actually expecting an improvement in my overall image quality right away. Just the opposite, actually. I figured it would take awhile to get through the learning curve, and it is. Under simple or lucky conditions, I take much better pictures than I could have with my old camera. I'm really happy with how a number of my shots have turned out. But there are more moving parts and manual elements to adjust with the new camera so I am throwing away a lot of pictures while learning about all of that.
Overall, I'm very happy. I just still have more learning to do. Luckily I get to take lots of pictures while doing that. :-)
