Why waste time? Lets just give gyaban his blue ribbon now. |

I don't know... Samantha has beaten him.
Heck, I've even beaten him in expert! (which I still have circled on my calendar and which will never happen again, by the way. :)
What a fun challenge though! I really need to think this through.

If you really feel that way, please reconsider. Most of the time, winning a challenge takes 2 things: a good idea, and hard work. Anyone can decide anytime to get there. Johanna, Wendy, Samantha, Judi, Elsapo, Allen, and many others have kicked my ass in expert editing challenges. Virtually anyone can: my little self is not that significant. Remember that the first time I opened Photoshop, it was here for DPC about 2 years ago: if I learned what I learned from here, many others can too. Also, my goal is not to collect ribbons (although it is obviously always a great feeling to win any competition): I use challenges as a reason to create images I like. Challenges are important to me, because I know that without such kind of motivation, without a precise time constraint, I tend to endlessly postpone things and they never get done.
On a side note, I am away next week on a business trip, and probably won't be able to enter both expert editing challenges anyway :-/ |

Two (2) expert editing challenges up at the same time. I see the trend. |

This may have been said in jest but I have seen comments like this in other threads as well as on gyaban's images post-challenge. And other comments indicating that the situation should somehow be changed - like maybe he should not do his best or should not enter so others can have a chance; or maybe the site should assign handicaps to us to even things out or have something built in so that whenever someone gets too many ribbons they can't win any more until others catch up. I don't even smile when I read them. Nor do I nod assent. Comments like these just annoy me (to put it mildly). |

The December Free Study is Advanced - just as they always are. But yes, the "Your Final Entry" challenge is Expert as is Holiday Cards. Though I probably won't enter either, it's certainly not because of the editing rules. |

As I see it there are two ways to take the statement "Why waste time? Lets just give gyaban his blue ribbon now.".
One is pretty darn crappy and bitter, an implication that he's out of his league and beating on children and stealing their candy.
The other is just a good-natured nod to Gyaban's skill and dominance. (look at his profile, he ribbons almost every entry, and it's blue more often than not.). The guy is a powerhouse without any argument, and I think we should expect some note of that.
Of course, the joke is that he kicks our asses in every type of editing ruleset, so there's no real reason to just say "Why waste time? Lets just give gyaban his blue ribbon now." only on expert challenges. ;)
Personally I hope Christophe joins the team-challenge, it'll give you guys a good target to shoot at. |

My expert editing skills suck but I still say BRING IT ON, yes Gyaban is amazing with the expert rule-set but don't let that put you off, it's all the more reason to search him out and open up a can of 'Whoop Ass' on him.
As we have seen... he is also a force in Minimal editing too.. |

Agreed. I could certainly pull more high scoring entries if I gave it the time and effort. I'm really not making a lot of effort with the photography lately, however. I'm doing what I like with it and that often fails to resonate with the DPC collective.

I agree with the majority of people here. Gyaban's entries are amazing. I have only been here 10 months but I have learned a lot from just looking and reading the posts. While expert editing is not something I am very good at. It is something to aspire to. I hope to be as good as some of the fantastic photographers here especially gyaban |

I don't think JH's comment was meant in a rude or bitter way...
gyaban is an extremely talented photographer and photoshop expert!!!
I Love seeing his work and what he comes up with.
as for not entering the challenges, I'm sorry to hear that... :(
good luck to those who do enter.

It is awfully silly to sit this one out -- after all -- it will be our last challenge that will make it through voting ...

I hear the mayans laughing... mwwahahahahahahahaha!!!

It does seem rather unfair that the winners may not get but a few hours on the front page after rollover. Oh well, I guess it's not the end of the wor---------- |

Someone should PM MNet and let her know about this...I think she really enjoys that type of challenge, right?

I'm in. And I'm aiming to beat both gyaban and Samantha_T (if anyone around here got good taste, that is).
j/k of course, but a top 5 would be nice (and fair) |
