Oh, well, since it seems to be so fashionable at the moment ;)
I have never said that there is anything wrong with this site's model. I truly think that Langdon and Drew were very ingenious when they created DPC. Lots of fantastic ideas that have worked very well for a few years attracting some exceptional photographic talent.
But now this site needs some maturity and responsibility. Applauding the messy status quo will not attract any new members. Trying to get a message across to Langdon might work but it needs support from all members and, unfortunately, most prefer to hide their heads in the sand. In some ways your genuine enthusiasm to keep things as they are, will contribute further to the slow decline this site is experiencing.
Why not send many emails to Langdon asking him to take responsibity for DPC? And those who have direct contact with him - why don't you talk to him? Why can't he let Bear administer the content? Or just let the SC run the site? Or sell it? Possibilities are endless, it is leaving the DPC in its current messay state that is the worst option.
Best regards

I vote for leaving DPC in its current messy state. I don't see it as that much different as when i first joined in 2009. Maybe a few less entries. Maybe a few really interesting and valuable people leave or feel they have to leave for whatever reason. It's just somewhere to put your pictures after all.
Can't see what the fuss is about really.
Why bang on about the 'slow decline' as if this is something that is so horrendous. Websites have finite lives. DPC actually seems like a strong longer lasting one to me to be honest. I'd suggest just enjoying your photography, log onto DPC when you feel like it, and just, getting on with things really. |

Margaret, you are a very good landscape photographer. Really good. Go and get some exhibitions or something! Do some stuff that is local to you. Teach photography to kids, educate, make cards, have exhibitions, be an artist! I don't understand why you are kind of stressed out about this place. It is what it is. That's the internet. Just pop in now and then. It won't have changed.

What does this have to do with Johanna? I'm sure she can get you one of those gilded bras. Clive has offered some good advice. |

MargaretN/Marnet/Mnet - You've been here two years, and changed your name a number of times during that period. You are an excellent photographer. Many of your fellow members have suggested that you continue to do your excellent photography and take a vacation from the forums, mostly because the forums seem to make you unhappy.
by now, you must realize most of us like DPChallenge the way it is, and can live, happily, with any perceived shortcomings. I sincerely hope you can do the same.
Best regards.

Do you not know how to send a PM? If this was in fact addressed to her, you would have contacted her directly, not through the forums.

I'm a little confused as to why Johanna was singled out, when others also share her views...
My suggestion is, that if you do not want public comment, don't post in a public thread... |

I think Margaret has a wicked sense of humour that is equivalent to her photographic skills and revels in the fact no one has spotted it. n'est-ce pas?

OK, I am not Art, not good at jokes. I just had no idea how much emotion is bottled up at DPC, how many people rely on DPC for their emotional lives. It is definitely not a site about photography any more, I got it wrong trying to approach fixing the decline of membership with my rational thinking. Let it be then. |

MargaretN/Marnet/Mnet Tanquera is a friend of mine. I am sure she will not mind my reading her mail, addressed to her in an open forum.
Still, would you like me to post this message in the other threads you frequent, so that you will have a chance to read it in a format you prefer?
Meanwhile, I do hope a quiet, calm member of the Site Council
will come along and lock most of these silly threads, soon. |

Ahhh... Nothing like the musical magic of a condescending tone to sooth the masses...

Friendship
I think awhile of Love, and while I think,
Love is to me a world,
Sole meat and sweetest drink,
And close connecting link
Tween heaven and earth.
I only know it is, not how or why,
My greatest happiness;
However hard I try,
Not if I were to die,
Can I explain.
I fain would ask my friend how it can be,
But when the time arrives,
Then Love is more lovely
Than anything to me,
And so I'm dumb.
For if the truth were known, Love cannot speak,
But only thinks and does;
Though surely out 'twill leak
Without the help of Greek,
Or any tongue.
A man may love the truth and practise it,
Beauty he may admire,
And goodness not omit,
As much as may befit
To reverence.
But only when these three together meet,
As they always incline,
And make one soul the seat,
And favorite retreat,
Of loveliness;
When under kindred shape, like loves and hates
And a kindred nature,
Proclaim us to be mates,
Exposed to equal fates
Eternally;
And each may other help, and service do,
Drawing Love's bands more tight,
Service he ne'er shall rue
While one and one make two,
And two are one;
In such case only doth man fully prove
Fully as man can do,
What power there is in Love
His inmost soul to move
Resistlessly.
- Thoreau

Some things in life are bad, they can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you're chewing on life's gristle, don't grumble give a whistle
This will help things turn out for the best
Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life
If life seems jolly rotten, there's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you're feeling in the dumps, don't be silly, chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle, that's the thing
So, always look on the bright side of deat
Just before you draw your terminal breath
Life's a counterfeit and when you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's the joke, it's true
You see, it's all a show, keep them laughing as you go
Just remember the last laugh is on you
Always look on the bright side of life
And always look on the right side of life
Always look on the bright side of life
And always look on the right side of life |

Life here at... DPC...
Come here and, you will see...
How much we love to post and bicker
and then about our scores we dicker.
Why not come and show the love?
Why do we tend to chat and shove?
Do not post of angst and anger...
Do like the English with a banger!
I'm not a poet and don't care
But among friends, I lay bare
my soul and score for you to see
and then among you, I decree...
Stop this madness, stop it DO!
For we ALL are most like YOU!
DPC is as it's been.
It is not now Langdon's whim.
DPC has always been
A place for women and for men
to hone their skills and play the game
for the ribbon, voters to name.
You don't like it here, you say?
Stay again another day.
Times will change... they always do...
...Then a ribbon will come to YOU!
~Lydia
