I had a great time shooting at the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester NY on Sunday morning and came away with a few keepers. Up until now I've focused on landscapes, so this was my first adventure in photographing live animals with any degree of seriousness. Photography is so easy until you start taking it seriously :)

As always, your comments and feedback are appreciated.

Nice shots... my favorites are the last 2 (Bald Eagle giving you the look and the 2 elephants).

Nice pictures, I like the b/w on the elephants, nice print maybe?
The first eagle shot is superb, Could it stand a closer crop for print?
if it could you would have an awesome picture,
Paul.

Thanks! I was debating the composition of the first eagle shot. To frame the eagle tightly I'd have to move to a different aspect ratio - which I could certainly do. However, because this shot involved some motion, I thought it appropriate to add a little extra frame on the left to hint at where he was going. In fact, he didn't go anywhere - just stretched his wings a bit to show off for me.

It's interesting to hear about the first eagle shot's cropping twice... I didn't expect that at all. My vision for the shot was to suggest motion in a forward direction, thus leaving space in the frame to "lead" your eye in the direction he'd be going. Apparently this technique didn't work (for two people anyway!).

Glad you liked the elephants! All of these prints are pending approval at the moment and will soon be in my prints gallery.

Check that... they're already approved. The print review process in one well oiled machine! I can only imagine how the developers can approve prints and write code at the same time. And they really do review quality on each print - they caught an image problem on one of my submissions that I'd missed. What a great service!
