that's what the 50 f/1.2 was made for. Well, that plus a hell of a lot of noise reduction and sharpening.
Honestly, if it was me, and I had access to the venue before-hand, I'd just rig up some speedlights and radio triggers on ultra-clamps and magic arms if the organizers would allow it. Light is so much cheaper than ISO. |

it was in a sport hall, you are not allowed within 5 metres of the track for safety and no stands etc allowed again as they come flying off the track, i shot some with my 50 1.4 but just to far away. 70-200 2.8 was the weapon of choice
im a big lad whose played rugby all my life and i said id be fine by the track but they said no alas do as one is told
anyway back to the case in point have these ppl got these cameras or wishful thinking i want to see some shots and challenge enteries with these bad boys :) ?

I am one of the owners of the 1DX. Have been shooting for about a week, mostly night shots. I will be entering one in the Nov FS. The body is the total combination of all the EOS models built into one. Couldn't really ask for more at this point, but I haven't even come close to putting it through everything it can do. I bought it cause I can, and cause I like to shoot night shots. The reviews said it was the best night camera produced for low noise. So far, I am happy with it but again, I have only taken less than 500 shots with it. I'm not a sport photog, but I have experimented with the servo focusing system, and it tracks subjects like a laser. It has 6 choices for how to track a subject. Have not experimented with all of them yet. You can adjust the settings of each one as you see fit. I love the functionality of it, I owned the 1DMK4 before, so I know the button placements but there are upgrades on the 1Dx that you need to learn again. Completely new menu, which I think is a good thing. In-camera multiple exposure which is great! Nikon has had this for awhile now. Two CF cards slots. Overall, right now, I am really happy with it. Image quality is great, but the new 5d3 has a little better resolution. Not a significant difference. But, I am keeping my 5d2 for landscape shots with good light.
The 12 fps is just crazy. I have not had the time to really use it, but I can see it coming in very handy for fast action. It processes and stores the images like no bodies business. If you want to take a 3, 5, or 7 shot HDR, the 12 FPS comes in very handy if your subject is moving.
This camera is made for almost any kind of shooting. With the exception of discreet street shooting. Not made for that. I have been waiting for a camera like this to be made, so I am happy to own it now. Many days of fun ahead.
It has better high ISO capabilities than all previous models. Can tell a difference when shooting above 2500. I shot some test shots at 25K ISO, and saw noise in the entire image, not too significant, and I used Topaz denoise and it did an amazing job and left good details. I don't think I would use anything above 5000 ISO though. I'm a detail junkie. I wouldn't go over 1250 ISO with my 5D3 though.
I can't say whether this body would do well in a dark gym, but I have read that it does do well. I can imagine it would, since it can comfortably go up to 5000 ISO and maybe a little beyond. Here is one image I can post for now. Not entering this anywhere. This is 100 ISO at 30 sec. I had no issues whatsoever with any noise. Shot with the 70-200 f4 with tripod.

That's why you attach the lights to the rafters, with clamps. |

| I have yet to read a review by a 1DX owner that wasn't glowing. I'll never have a reason to own one but I would lvoe to shoot with one for a week just to play with it. The DigitalRev review blew me away when I saw how crisp the shots were when taken in burst mode. As far as I can tell the only thing missing is built-in wireles xfer capability but I can't imagine that being a deal breaker. |

I dont regret getting it. Took it for it's first trip to the mountains recently and it was a blast. As I also mostly love night photography and Lightning I wasnt going to mess around. On the 1 in a million odd chance I am able to get the shot Im hunting, I dont want anything but as good as what is available. I plan enough hours, spend enough energy hunting and then finally when the opportunity does present itself I want to image as good as it can be.
Im not blind to the price of the camera and yes it's very expensive especially to a non pro like me but then I dont drink, I dont smoke, I dont party..So from somewhere else I have to add some spice to my boring life dont you think? LOL Just joking
It's a great camera, Period
PS - With regards to focusing...I was blown away by how fast it focusses. I hardly would ever use it in this context but man it was fun to see how fast it focusses between infinity to close with a 70-200 when composing a landscape shot. Steve was joking with me as there's lots of irony in me having this advanced focusing system and shooting either with manual focus only lenses or the AF button off on the lens.. I simply dont need AF... lol.. But Im looking forward to use it...one day.. :)

Nice try cory but the ceiling must have been at least 100 foot above the floor
I'd need a cherry picker, font worry I was having flights of fancy about rigging a track and wire system for some kind of flying camera hehe
heres the room and where i was shooting from, there was a guy who does all the roller girl photos he was shooting with a 1d iv with 135L said was perfect for him. i just went along at the request of an ex to shoot some, learnt a lot though which is always good, and met some new willing models :)
