Okay. So I am getting a yearly bonus coming up soon, and I would really like to get a Macro lens for my Canon 60D. I would like a dedicated lens for macro photography, but would like to spend as little as I can (obviously) while getting the best quality. Willing to go off brand for the lens (as I will be just trying my hand at Macro's) to start with. I am really impressed with some of the great pics of small items and insects that get posted. Sadly, I have no idea whatsoever about that type of photography or the lenses required. I understand reversing rings etc. . .but would like a single dedicated lens to start with.

What do you guys think?

Canon's 60mm EF-S Macro Is the most bang for your buck IMO. Outstanding lens in every respect. But it only fits the crop-sensor Canons, so if you have a sense that you'll be moving to full-frame in the relatively near future it might not be a good idea. The best macro lens Canon makes is the newish 100mm f/2.8L IS. and it's beyond outstanding. It has a new-generation IS system that actually helps in handholding macros.

PennyClick and I have both these lenses. I used the 60mm a LOT before I went FF with the 5D; she still uses it on her 7D. I use the 100mm IS on the big camera and I love it as a general-purpose lens, not just as a macro. Super-sharp, super-clean. Same goes for the 60mm...
