Unless, perhaps, the subject of the photo shows contrast, not the lighting/processing. Haven't looked at everything yet but have seen this alternative interpretation of the subject before.

And to get back to scores, mine's still staying in the high 5's. There's a joke in there, somewhere, isn't there ...

To an extent. Check out the euphemism challenge. Over 50% of the entries aren't euphemisms. Voters clearly didn't care. Makes it really annoying when you shoot for the challenge only to realize it's irrelevant.

Most photos that do, end up scoring poorly in the long run. If the photo does not score poorly, that is when --after the challenge-- I start asking other members what they think, and very often I find out that the photo in question met the challenge in some way I was not thinking of. . .

i see your points and while i can agree with some of it, i dont think since being part of the site that in all challenges it is the case. just my personal view. High Contrast is High Contrast it is what it is. Interpretation of something that has been defined is not the same. i see a lot of low contrast images in this challenge and i can see from my own images scores that a lot of people do not know the difference. i stand by that. im not wishing to offend or upset anyone i much prefer to give constructive criticism or empower people to do better and enjoy, but seeing anyones photo who deserves better get low scores when others are not really interpreting the challenge correctly is sad to see, because it does put people off entering in my opinion.. anyway... have a great day im not singuling anyone out and its not about negativity its about trying to educate others i think? so that we all feel like the site is much more balanced?

I'm not put out in the least by your points. I feel it is a valid discussion. It's certainly one I would like to dig into technically after the challenge is finished.

I haven't posted on this site in a long time, and I'm by no means an experienced or educated photographer. With that said, I must I am very disappointed in what it has apparently become. So if I understand this correct, if my photo doesn't score within the top 90th percentile I should complain that voters obviously didn't understand the "theory" behind the challenge or the rating system. Because surly if they did I would have done better! Most of the ones complaining here are wonderful photographs, but not everyone can be a high scoring photo guys/gals. If you desire the photo to be judge based on your adherence to the assignment, then join and academic art program (or go back). However if you want a raw interpretation from the main stream audience, then welcome to DPC!

To everyone that has enter the challenge, no matter your content, congratulation on whatever score you receive. If it is low, the try again. Improve on the image that you believe to be beautiful. But regardless thank you for sharing your ARTIST view on this challenge.

I am not quite clear on High Contrast. I'd be interested if you commented on as many images as you can. It will be very educational for me to read your comments after the challenge. :)

I (think) I know what high contrast is and I think me entry might not be so high contrasty. But I still submitted as an exercise. And I enjoy it and I don't care about the score. GeneralE is one of my heros here with a staggering 1,091 entries. He mentioned somewhere, can not find where that every chalenge is like a homework or assignment. You submit the best you have and can do in a limited time.

And yes sometimes is borring here but I still come back and 99.99% I will renew my membership.

Cheers,

not supposed to sway other voters...
high contrast is high contrast... whatever you feel it is.

remember, we do NOT have to follow the challenge rules in these challenges. if we want to enter a table in the umbrella challenge, we can... a table can be an umbrella... a heavy one, a strange one, but it CAN be one.
so if someone wants to enter high key as high contrast, they can...

BTW... I am being sarcastic in my tone... so don't be offended. :)

Hahahahahahah haha!
Oh and we shouldn't define high contrast (or High Contast if you will) during voting period if I'm right? Lol.
Anyway back to being serious

lol well im glad it got you all talking... no matter what i said, feel or think at least you've spoken... no offence meant to anyone and those that might have, its ok...it was never personal nor about my own score or anyone specific, it was a general discussion about seeing things differently, and we are all entitled to an opinion whether we agree or not ;O)

I wasn't referring to you. Honestly I didn't even read too many previous comments in this thread (now I'm curious:) My comment and laughing was related to some previous threads, so no worries :)

Yee haw. I knew there was a reason I was staying away from challenges! But there's a fav, and Tiny likes it. So I guess I'm good with that. Score sucks. And you know, if I'm upsetting so many of you, perhaps I should go back to simply not entering? Frustrating.
