ooohhh... please do share where that auction is! :)

DealDash.com - it's a penny auction site.But you have to be very careful or you'll just lose all the bids you buy. Bids packages are usually on some kind of sale, so the bids can cost anywhere from 15 cents to 60 cents a bid. (US only) They have all kinds of stuff on there. I highly recommend you check out the tips and tricks info first and learn as much as you can before you start bidding. I've been lucky so far and have come out saving about 25%-40% on most the stuff I have won. I got a KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer for $94 (retails for $349), a Bose SoundLink Bluetooth Wireless Speaker for $28 (retail is around $300), a WD My Book 3 TB External USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 Drive for $28 (retails for $219), and a $50 iTune Gift Card for $2.34. My biggest win ... an iPad 4 with Retina Display 64gb for $120.

Basically your gambling with your cash though. If you aren't willing to research it and learn the tricks then I don't advise it as you'll lose a ton of cash.

but how much have you lost on losing auctions? : )

I used to have the 50mm f1.8 and it was a great lens for what it was. Sharp as a tack and inexpensive. However, due to the design of the aperture, the bokeh was "crunchy", it was slow and loud to focus. Eventually, those shortcomings led me to consider the 50mm f1.4 as being worth the extra $$. I haven't looked back. You're the only one who can decide if the investment is worth it or not.

I did lose a couple auctions in the begining - like I said you really need to learn the tricks and the flow of each auction. I do NOT recommend this to everyone. I myself am very picky now what I enter and how I play it.
Even with the auctions I lost, at this point I am ahead of the game.

just read that a new 50mm from canon is rumored to be on the way.

//www.canonrumors.com/2012/11/new-50-finally-on-the-way-cr1/

the price point in a different article suggests $799. a bit steep if you ask me, $499 would be better.

A new 50/1.4 is not a sure thing, IMO. If you read later posts at canonrumors.com, you'll see that the 35/2 IS was announced and may have been what was presumed to be a new 50mm. then again, we very well may see a new 50 as well in 2013. The existing 50/1.4 is gettign long in the tooth.
FWIW, a new 50/1.4 will be I presume at least $799 USD, maybe more, given Canon're recent pricing.
