I have two time capsules on my wireless network, one connected physically to my MacPro and one connected to the ADSL modem.
I backup the Mac Pro to the attached Time Capsule and it also extends the wireless network. I now want to back up a Macbook Pro to the other Time Capsule but I can't see how to tell it to use that one. It only sees the data bundle on the one attached to the Mac Pro.
I try to select the other disk, Airport Utility sees it and allows me to edit settings but there is no option in that menu to designate it as the Time Machine target drive.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

That's where I start Ben, I browse for other disks and it opens Airport Utility to do that... |

For a big back up its so slow in wireless mode your better off physically connected,
So you can see both drives in timecapsule utility?
But time machine won't let you select it?
I stopped using them a few years ago after my two 500gb died due to the power module problem
I ripped the disks out and just have the desk stacked on a desk connected with USB connection kit no enclosures

I agree, I've connected my Mac Pro physically to one Time Capsule but although I'm happy to do an initial backup of the MacBook Pro via a cabled connection, I want the subsequent incremental backups to take place wirelessly so I can forget about it. Most of the work done on that machine is document not image based so that shouldn't be an issue.
I've lost the power supply on an old Time Capsule before, that 1TB drive is now in my MacPro and I've also lost the power supply on a 3rd party 2X500GB drive. I'd quite like to reuse the drives and having them connected somehow as extra storage for the MacBook Pro is attractive. How do you power yours? And how does the SATA drive become usable in USB mode?
Thanks

Yeah that's what I was meaning do an initial physical connection backup which will set the drive up as a time machine drive then switch to wireless
To connect them it's just a kit of Amazon, about £12 has a power lead then 4 different connectors Sata 2.5 IDE or 3.5 IDE etc
Ill send link when I get up as on phone at mo |
