So, I am uploading an entry for the Buttons challenge and the image looks soft in the preview. It is sharp in PS and when I look at it with Windows Photo Viewer. What gives? |

I've been having the same problem since I upgraded to CS6 a couple weeks ago but I attributed it to personal incompetence, unfamiliarity with some settings, and thought better of asking such a stupid question.
But I'm interested in the responses you get! |

Are you doing a zoom in your browser? I did that once and my husband figured it out and set it right.
In Firefox, you hit Ctrl-0 (zero) to reset the zoom to normal.
And yeah! More button entries:-) If this keeps up we will definitely be in the top 50;-P |

Thanks for that tip. I have a new laptop as well, so that was also an issue. Massive difference viewing images on this thing. They're postage-stamp size now. |

Did you view the image in a browser prior to uploading and did it appear sharp?

put it in your workshop.... if I view from there, it's not a problem... Move to challenge and it's fuzzy. I use Chrome. |

I think I have some settings to adjust as well as an overhaul of my workflow. Clearly something I'm doing is off.
Compare Cuttooth's recent winner to a recent shot of mine (well, relatively... since there haven't been many).
vs.
If I zero out the browser view using CNovack's tip, both look relative sharp (though mine is more than a little overcooked), but as I zoom in Cuttooth's remains excellent while mine turns into a blurry, artifact-filled mess. What am I doing wrong?
Sorry to hijack this if I have. |

To the degree to which you use extreme "structure" or "local area contrast" or "clarity" in Nik, Topaz, and even photoshop, you ARE introducing artifacts at the pixel level. So if you take an 800-pixel image like that and enlarge it on the screen to peep, you're not gonna like what you see. |

Hmm... sharp in Chrome and fuzzy in IE... too weird. |
