So, I figured I'd let you all know that Thursday, Dallas has his first round of steroid injections. We hope it works, but the doc said it'll take a few sets (once every six weeks) before we'll begin seeing any results.

To top things off... Dallas wants to start public school! we've been doing homeschool the past few months, but he's determined to go to regular school. so we've been working on things to get him enrolled. :)

Mac (his little brother) is in preK this year (which is 3 hours a day). so, once Dallas starts, I'll have 3 hours a day to myself.

hubby asked me what I was going to do... dive into photography, of course. so I will soon be able to go shoot different locations (which I couldn't before because of having the kids with me) and better refine my skills.

excited for so many different things coming up!

Excellent! Hope Dallas is treated well by the little snot-heads (kids are cruel you know, especially if there's something different)..

As for your photography, GREAT! Follow your dreams.

Yup, but the nice thing is, he's still young enough that a good majority of them are more accepting, as well. A lot easier to be different when you're really little than in middle school or high school. Making a good base of friends now that will carry through the difficult years is what really counts.

this is EXACTLY what my husband and I were talking about. we have moved 9 times in the last 7 years. I told him we HAVE to settle down somewhere, especially now. it is important for Dallas to have friends that will be with him throughout school.

thanks everyone! Dallas IS amazing! we are so proud. and I will keep you all updated. :)

With two special needs kids, we've found that if the other kids understand why they're different and that it isn't their fault, they're a lot more tolerant and a lot less likely to tease - especially if the teachers / aides take a supportive attitude. Best to you all.

edit... OK. I can't leave it alone. One of the most inspirational stories I've heard at an autism conference was where a non-verbal boy with autism was befriended by a couple of the popular, athletic guys in the school, and they hung out together. Even though the boy with autism couldn't speak, he could interact with them non-verbally, and the three of them would often be seen going down the hall together. Friendship and respect overcame the language barrier.

What wonderful news that Dallas is doing so well. I think it's fantastic that he wants to go to public school.
