Check it out!

A team from Rice has successfully demonstrated a new crushed silicon anode that allows for extremely enhance capacities of Li-Ion batteries.

You can bet I'm hoping someone creates a replacement battery for my camera with this - 6600 mAH would be incredible!

Cool. So who wants to fund my upcoming silicon exploration program? I've got some tropical beach target areas chosen already.

You'll probably only strike carbonate or basalt. ;)

Ha, true! But on the bright side, I'll need much more financing to extend my exploration program.

that would be nice, but if you think a camera sucks power, try a 400 lumen headlight on your bike. It's actually amazing that I can get the several hours runtime out of it that I do now.

I wonder if this new technology has the potential for extending the batteries life expectancy?

In the 70's I had a bike light than ran via electricity generated by my turning bike tire. Maybe you would enjoy one of those, there must be something like that these days???

They are still around, just not so much in my neck of the woods. Germans do not have to wear helmets, but their bicycles must have dynamo powered lights that provide a minimum of ten lux. So if you can't find them locally, you know they are on the web.

I found the German law interesting in that you have the right to risk your own head by not wearing a helmet, but even battery powered lights are not good enough to ensure that other people can see you, so they have a greater chance of avoiding running you over. it is always interesting to see where state required safety laws put their emphasis.

The emphasis in that case is personal responsibility - the bike rider has the right to risk his/her own head injury, but does not have the right to cause another person to do it to them. Makes sense to me.

Yes, they still exist. The best kind are generator hubs, but those are not add-ons. you have to build a wheel around those.

I'm always curious how long it takes to go from one of these announcements to being in your average battery.

The problem with this theory arises when the public has to pay to stuff the uninsured and unhelmeted biker's brains back into their skull ... and even if they're insured, the extra cost of treating severe head injuries undoubtedly raises premiums for everybody.

Like most everything else technological these days, that time is getting shorter and shorter.

Please, let it be next month... I'm sick and tired of carrying around a spare phone battery.

depends on if the big players are equipped to produce otherwise they have to squash it out of fear and you wont see it until they catch up.

With that imagination, I'd skip the glasses...
