So... I've decided that I want to "learn" much more about photography, about my camera, settings, lenses, and so on.
I want to begin a "Weekly Assignment" for myself (and anyone else who would like to join).
But I'm horrible with ideas on this.
So, my question is:
What are some good "weekly" assignments that would require a photo a day, to learn different functions? (then we'll begin focusing on lenses, black and white, etc).
Ideas?
Anyone want to join me in this journey?
Thanks in advance everyone!
I would like to start this today, if possible. Make it a week long challenge. Monday to Sunday. :)

How about one to learn the effects of focal length? Frame up the same scene at different focal lengths to learn what effect that has.

I'll try a tag along with you and I think Spiff's idea is a good one to start with.

Are you suggesting shooting from the same location with different FL, or moving to achieve the same framing with different FL?
Seems to me the former compares esthetics (different framing/scenes) and the latter lens quality at different length settings. |

Well, both ways could be educational exercises. Focal length and aperture both have an effect on depth of field, but if I want the sharpest image with a pleasing OOF background, I step back a few feet and go for a long focal length to achieve it.

Yeah, but if you're experimenting you should only change one variable at a time, focal length or aperture, but not both at once. |

Great ideas. Thanks for those.
I figure for the rest of this week, I am going to take a picture like I normally would.
Each day, something different, but something I can revisit every few months to check my progress against.
For example, today I am going to shoot something outdoors.
Then, after learning some different techniques, I will revisit the site and shoot again, applying my new techniques.
This way, I can check for improvements, etc.
I am going to make up a plan and then will post.
So if anyone wants to tag along, feel free.
Otherwise, it'll still be a great learning experience for me. And perhaps I can get feedback from people here! :)

So I started a blog on my photo assignments. Anyone is free to comment there, and I will post my journey here as well.
If you'd like to tag-along and learn new features, refresh your memory on things, etc. Feel free, I would love to have "virtual" company. :)
So, for the first round of assignments, this is what I have:
