LOL, what was that, did the controller just go off on a rant about the visor?
They totally muted him. |

An interesting fact: The gent who is helping him run through the checklist is Joe Kittinger - who years back made a jump from 102,000 feet. |

didn't break the longest freefall... Kittinger still owns that one.

Im glad I didnt miss that (big thanks to the OP).
My internet connection is wonky at times, and just as he stood on the ledge of the capsule it kicked out on me... thankfully, they took their time with the checklist and I caught the jump. |

Man, that was great. Not very often you see something like that live.
That spin at the beginning had me holding my breath. But the final parachute in to landing was fantastic.
Interesting fact: He was born on 20th April 1969, the same day as me. Interesting how paths in life diverge like that. To the point where he's jumping off a ledge 35km over my head... lol |

WOW - I was glued to my seat for over 3 hours. What a jump, bravo Felix!
What a hostile environment to be in. I've watched spacewalks before, but this was something else. The moment the little figure dropped from the capsule... he fell through vacuum, almost for an entire minute, before he had enough air around him to be able to stabilize. I think something happened to him during the spins. Can't wait for the press conference.

I suspect he did, but we'll have to wait for them to validate it.
It seemed like he triggered the chute short of the "longest free fall" record intentionally? If so, that would show a high level of respect for Kittinger. |

I can't fathom doing this in the early 60's. |
