According to this Wikipedia article, Pet Rocks started to be sold in 1975. They are normal rocks, in a cardboard box, and people would buy these mostly as a joke. They have often false eyes glued on them, like here or here.
So my understanding of the challenge is that you have to produce an entry showing one or several of them, as if they were a regular pet (for example eating, "playing" in the garden, sleeping on someone knees, etc.) |
Ok, that's what I had found on the net - now I'm wondering why 'expert editing' for this one... |
You kids! I had one of those stupid things when they came out back in 75. I think it is still sitting in it's box at my parents house. Good thing they don't get hungry very often. |

Ok, it's funny but Expert was not necessary this time :)
Ps. I was born in '75! |

So...
I decided to enter the challenge.
Pressed for time, so it's another last minute entry.
I like the shot and idea here. Let's see how well it resonates with the voters, however.
I'm sure there will be some really good entries, considering it's Expert Editing... and we all know... I'm NO EXPERT! Lol.
Oh well... it was fun shooting, so that's all that matters, right? :)
Best of luck to everyone who enters/entered

Just an hour left and only 27 entries. I think I may regret entering :( |

Well, I organized up a shoot and made my entry, had to pump the numbers up. Looking forward to another top-20, if I'm lucky :-) |

Eeewwww! Do people really stuff their pets? |
Are you really unaware of this? |
Yes, I always thought it was a "redneck" type joke. When I went to the Academy of Natural Science, I thought it was cool that the animals were so lifelike. Then I found out they were real stuffed animals. OK, for science, for a museum, I get it. But for a pet that you loved, that's just a little twisted. Kind of like stuffing grandma and sitting her in the rocker in the corner. |
Heck, Pet Taxidermy is possibly THE major source of income for what remains of the taxidermy profession. Nowadays you can't even legally have, say, an owl that you found dead in the woods stuffed, because it's a protected species. |
Random fact: You used to be able to legally hunt birds of prey, and therefore, you could legally have them mounted. Now, if you have an owl mounted, you need to have the original tag to prove where it came from. (I only know this because my in-laws have an owl hanging on their wall from waaaaay back in the day and the old hunting license is attached to the back of it.) |
