I have been trying to resize my picture to fit the entry standards (150kb, 640 or less) and they are coming out so grainy. I dont know what I am doing wrong. I have PS7 as software. Please help..

In PS7...

1. crop your image as desired.
2. goto Image/ImageSize and input the desired number of pixels on the longest axis of your photo...make sure it's set up for constrained proportions and bicubic resampling.
3. complete image edits.
4. save for web (must be saved this way or it will be tossed from the challenge) slide the quality bar up/down so your are as near 150kb as possible but not over.

HTH! :0)

btw..unless you've got the camera set up to take SQ or lower images or you are cropping too much...you shouldn't be getting grain by shrinking the file size to 150kb...let us know if you still have issues.

Steve,
In the "save for web" area you can also use the "optimize to file size" setting and input 150k in the "desired file size" field.

I did everything that you guys said and I am still getting let's say a noisey halo around my darker objects. As far as my camera set up it is set up for HQ 2288 X 1712. Thanks

Are you sure it is in JPG format? Send your original to me at tony@amerigo.com and I will take a look at it in PS7. If you want.

Try this:

Open image in PS7.
Make adjustments i.e. unsharp mask, levels, hue .....
Select crop tool.
Input 640 in the field for longest side. Append the value with px.
Input something that meets the requirements in the other.
Input 72 in the resolution field. (or whatever you want)
Click and drag the crop tool on the image as desired, hit enter.
Now save for web as described earlier.

Hope that helps.

Hey Tarbini... I really liked your traintrack picture. Something about the light warm color really gave it something special. Was that a camera setting, like sephia or sump'in? Or was that manual tweaking?

Thanks, I tweaked the levels and contrast first, then desaturated it, then played with the color balance. I had a few different variations to choose from so I asked my family which one they liked.
