		| | I am looking at getting a wide angle lens for my Canon.
Don't have a huge budget for it, so I was thinking the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM Lens.

Does anyone own this? Thoughts? Advice? Comments?
 Anything would be much appreciated.

I really want to add a UWA to the collection, and thought this would be a great addition, but before making the splurge, I wanted some feedback!

		| | I've been pretty happy with my Tamron 10-24.

		| | It is a reasonably good lens for the price. I tested that lens and compared it to the canon which is a fair bit more expensive. The canon 10-22 is a fair bit sharper but that comes at a fair premium.
Like I say, for the price I would recommend the Sigma ... if you can, take your camera to a shop and they will let you have a quick play with both, take a few pics, go home and look at the pics and check you are happy with the quality

		| | Seems like they are pretty close in cost.
I'll research that one as well.

That's the problem, there's not a camera shop around here. They just closed down the last two that were in the area. Next closest is over 2 hours away, and not even sure they carry these lenses.

SO... I will be buying online. Which is why I was seeking the advice of others.

I would love to add another canon lens to my bag (as those are the only I have, currently).

But, I also wanted to try out some other brands, see if they are comparable. And, with what's going on with Dallas, my budge is very limited.

My advice would be to shop with a vendor which offers something like a ten-day return policy; paying some shipping (and maybe even a small re-stocking fee) will be cheaper in the long run than using a lens you don't like.

		| | Ok...
 So it's between the Sigma f4-5.6 10-20mm, Tamron f3.5-4.5 10-24mm, and Tokina - 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X116.

They are all around the same price range... but I need to figure out which to get.

Seems the Tokina may be the best.

I'm shooting with the Canon XSI, and would like to upgrade in the future (still canon, of course)

My brother shoots Nikon, but last Christmas when it came time to buying him a lens, I snagged the Nikon version of that Tokina. It got wicked reviews across the board. I've never touched the lens myself, but I know he's really like the results it produces.

		| | Do you need the wider range (Tamron) or faster speed (Tokina)? |

I don't know. I'm still learning a lot with photography. I'd say I'd like the wider range over the faster speed... I mean, I have my 50mm and 100mm 1.4 canon primes, so I could always use one of those if speed was the main concern, right?

I really want to start shooting more "abandoned" architecture, along with more landscapes.

The Tokina would be good with lower light, correct?
But the Tamron could be stopped down and used with my tripod should the need arise, correct?

 Which would you prefer/advise?

		| | i have a 10-22 for sale, which by all accounts is a stellar lens. I'll give you a good price, $600 shipped.
a few additional thoughts that may help you, i have only used a tamron 10-24 and a canon 10-22 on a crop so the rest here is info i gathered.

The canon 10-22 - best in IQ, sharpness, flare resistance.

The Tokina 11-16/2.8 can match sharpness but has a considerably smaller range and is susceptible to flare although constant 2.8.

I had the tamron 10-24, it was a nice lens but it was very soft wide open, stopped down its a pretty good lens, felt very well built.

I never used the sigma but hear its pretty good.

simply put, if you want the best possible IQ, buy the canon. i can show you images straight of of the camera that will blow your mind how well it resolves color and sharpness. if you are looking for a bargain buy, the sigma seems to be the consensus pick. i would stay with the canon, sigma or tamron for the range, on a crop its a great walkaround range, the tokina is pretty limited in that regard and seems it would only make good use as a specialty lens.

i can handhold a UWA at 1/20 or 1/10 at 10mm and consistently get sharp images. unless you are trying to mimize subject blur, a fast UWA isn't really required.

		| | Thanks mike_311!
I think I will look at some more reviews and decide further down the road.

I'm really impatient, though, so I'm hoping to pick one up before the weekend. lol

The Tokina is the sharpest of the 3, I owned a Tokina 11-16mm for a year, replaced it with the Canon in the end as I am too fussy about sharpness :) Also the extra stop makes it useful in low light where you can't use a tripod/monopod, though it is fairly soft at f2.8
