		| | Hello, I own a Nikon SB-800 speedlight and went to purchase another one but I see that Nikon has discontinued this model. A lot of people seem to love the Nikon SB-600 series i've never seen them or touched them. I use the pop up flash on my camera to fire my 800 right now as i can't seem to find a decent set of triggers at a decent price. My question is: Do the 600's have the capability to be fired with the pop up flash, in manual mode? i only use manual not i-TTL. |

		| | Yes, an SB600 will work. You will have to use the CLS system as you've used with your 800. You should be able to select manual power on the SB600 through the menu system on your camera.

However, one drawback of the SB600 is that it does not have it's own built in slave, so it will add a hindrance to integrating it into a set of any non-CLS flashes.

		| | A cheap set of triggers to use your flash in manual are the RF602's. I have never noticed a miss on mine that hasn't been user error.
The sB600 is also a lower powered flash. You would need to purchase the SB900 to have the equivalent power I believe.

		| | Perfect thanks Spirituals and RambllinR i'll look into the RF602's and maybe i'll need to just get the SB-910.. seems like a really good flash and they have the built in slave which i'd like to have.. I just didn't want to put out that much cash for it but... it's worth it in the end and I need at least two lights... one just isn't cutting it anymore, especially indoors when I can't use the sun as a kicker

		| | I purchased the Nissin Di-866 and loved it so much I bought a 2nd unit. I am fairly certain it does 98% of everything the SB910 does for less than the price of a SB600, of which I also own 2. |

There are lots of other flashes that have slaves that are much cheaper if you aren't interested in ttl. There are other features on the 910 that make it nice, but that's a lot of the cost. You might consider some of the older Nikon's which have slaves like the SB80. Or, for a newer flash, maybe the LP160. There are a variety of Yongnuo's as well, which have a mixed reputation but seem to be improving, as well. (just keep in mind you wouldn't be able to control the power from your camera with these units, they are true full manual).
