Ok, I am finally going to try a canvas print. I got a groupon, now I have to choose the image. Do I have to do anything extra to allow for the wrap?

Yes, they typically use between 1-1/2 and 2-1/2 inches on each side -- add a border if you don't want to lose the edges. If you ask, all of the vendors will/should be able to tell you the exact size to make your picture.

Canvas on Demand will also "mirror" the edges of your image if you don't have enough to wrap without losing some of the picture. I had an image with important elements coming very close to the edge. I called Canvas on Demad and they "mirrored" all 4 edges of the image for free so it could be wrapped. I've even had them mirror just one side of a landscape image when I didn't want to lose a tree that was on the edge. Great company to work with!

I'll look into getting a pro account, but not sure I would qualify. :-)

they'll pretty much take anyone who asks ;-)

another thing to plan for when ordering in the future is that they give discounts for additional copies ordered at the same time. this is a good thing to jump on if you have a client ordering something that you think would make a good portfolio piece (or if it's something you'd also like to show off on your wall).

You have (or should have) a gallery of prints for sale right here, complete with your own URL, like this:

For all questions about how much to leave around the edges and various edging options, just see Canvas on Demand's site - they have excellent FAQs. The answers depend on how thick the bars are - 0.75" up to 2.5" (I think that biggest one's only available on pro accounts).

They also offer outstanding help - just email them questions.

I'd appreciate it if you used my Referal code if you are new to Groupon. :-)

And here's a Groupon from Canvas on Demand if anyone is interested - Available for 1 more day.

"Choose from Three Options"
$45 for a 16"x20"x1.5" gallery-wrapped canvas (a $126.95 value)
$52 for a 20âx24âx1.5â gallery-wrapped canvas (a $149.95 value)
$75 for a 24âx36âx1.5â gallery-wrapped canvas (a $202.95 value)

Here's another Groupon if anyone missed the last one. This has 2 more days to go.

Are the prices for the Pro account canvases less than these?

Groupon sent me an email today for Canvas on Demand and I've never seen this offer before.

Groupon - good for 6 more days but you need to use the Groupon by Sept 30.

"The Deal

$39 for one 16âx20â customizable canvas print from Canvas on Demand ($126.95 list price)
$59 for two 16âx20â customizable canvas prints from Canvas on Demand ($238.95 list price)"

Really, I don't work for the company but this offer was too good not to share! :-)

Here is a link explaining how to prepare your images for printing by COD.
Preparing images for gallery wrap printing

The link should jump to the point on a FAQ page that describes setup for the most common 1.5" wrap and you will find setup for others above and below.
You can ask them to apply a digital mirror to the edges to extend around the side of the frame if you don't have extra area in your image for that and don't want a solid color applied to the sides. I use the "Perfect Resize" plug-in from OnOne to do prep for the sides myself so I know exactly what I am getting. With that plug-in you can add either a digital "stretch" or a "mirror" and I have found each is useful with certain images. If you are a stickler for lines finishing right where you want them in the corners, be sure the method you use to add image area shows a clear delineation between what is intended for the front and side. Mirroring usually creates abrupt chances in angle that give clues as to where the edge is intended to be.
I prepare my images to be 150dpi at the exact size I am having the print done at (plus any digital stretch).

Further down on the page is info about "soft proofing" images before printing. I only tried this once, but their profile seemed very close to what my own system is calibrated to.

I applied for a pro account over the weekend and if the prices are 25% below retail, plus you can apply further discounts it seems they will indeed be similar to the groupon prices (plus I always feel weird using a groupon). I am also hoping they give the pro accounts a higher priority than the groupon stuff where they will often tell you that due to high response to an offer the order could take quite a while.

I was approved for the pro account and it looks like if you just want to order a few canvases for your "studio", they give you a 40% off discount but you have to order 3 or more and on the side of the canvas it has to say your studio name and "sample canvas". Hey, I'm good with that!!! I can decorate my whole house with samples :)

Thanks for the heads up with this site guys. I was accepted on Pro and just made an order. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Slickchik, good idea, the writing doesn't appear too invasive.

I just used a groupon for a 24x36... man you can't beat those groupon prices, even better than a pro discount. Plus, they offered me another coupon for a 16x20 for $45 including shipping. Those prices are outstanding. I was always hesitant to order a groupon for a canvas because it was so cheap, I questioned the quality...

Now, I may just be hooked!!

That might be exactly the key Richard. I just yesterday submitted orders for two 24X36 canvases using Groupons and there was a popup stating due to overwhelming demand Groupon orders may take up to two weeks to be completed. I need pieces for an upcoming exhibit and with three weeks until the opening I should be okay with that.
However, I may print a couple more and customers may be ordering different sizes from what I have for sale at the exhibition. So waiting for new Groupon sales to come up is just not going to be sustainable for me, and to be honest now that I know the quality of their goods I feel like I am taking advantage of them by continuing to use Groupons.
I spoke with their customer service yesterday and got my Pro account established. I learned that as a Pro customer you not only always get a 25% discount from retail prices, but your work also gets expedited service as compared to the retail work they do (and especially Groupons I would think). That works well for me :)

There's a groupon right now for 2 16x20's for $59 from CoD. It's through the Philadelphia groupon.

Yeah, I should get it in two weeks. I don't mind waiting... It's longer than I want but I am in no hurry.

And as far as taking advantage of them using a groupons again... they offered me another coupon with the groupon price at the time I placed my order. I bought it. If they offer it, I'll keep using it. I don't have an issue with that :)
