EXIF data is easily changed. |
I know you're just "sayin", but it's worth mentioning anytime someone mentions tampering with EXIF, that tampering with EXIF data is grounds for being banned from DPC if you're caught! |
Maybe I should get myself banned so I can quit this like a bad habit. |
Your images are beautiful! Sorry about the DQ, don't give up so, hmm?! Looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful art... |

Skip, that seems a little harsh. She followed the practice that is recommended, and that is keeping the camera set to what she regarded as her home time zone. It's what I would do. Heck, often have done. I haven't been doing much international travel lately, but I used to do three or four trips a year for business, and my camera never budged off of CDT/CST.
Now, she does not list a home location in her profile... fair, she doesn't have to... but it made it impossible for the SC to know that her home was somewhere else. Now that they are aware, the *right* thing to do would be to reconsider the DQ, or at very least the suspension. Now, there may be more to the story than I know, but the SC's activity in this thread has not led me to believe that is so.

maybe harsh, but after awhile i don't suffer the lack of any responsibility attitude very well. i take it more as spin that monica was following any recommended practice, as opposed to she just never bothered to change her camera clock. most people don't. i have to constantly check mine, as i have three bodies that i have to keep in sync...and that still didn't keep me from screwing up and not checking the timestamp on an image i submitted. maybe the rules could use a tune up, but all the same, i don't see the need to devote time and energy into an exceptional situation when there are so many other things here that need more attention. just my 02.
edit for clarity.

ummmm....
Set your clock for where you are shooting.
The site will determine your time zone for submission based on your IP.
I really don't see the argument here. Too lazy to change a clock? I have been DQ'd for that very reason and I totally agree it was my fault. It was GD daylight savings time that screwed me. But whatever....
The point is, just change your clock and stop your bitching........
Dont normally jump into threads, but this is ridiculous.....
ETA...
if I have ever heard of a "First World Problem" it is this. "I travel too much and see too much of the world to be bothered to take note of what Time Zone I am in"
Gimme a break

That's not what I said. I asked for clarification on the rule that says "home time zone" then I'm told use the time zone where I am by other people in the forum, to which I said if I change time zone quite often I could still run into problems even if I shoot in the local time zone.
It's not necessary to make fun of me. I'm not whining about traveling "too much". I'm saying I live a different lifestyle where the rules as written are sketchy for me.

You should, at the very least, not be suspended. It is a stupid rule but you gotta shoot on. Its just a measly ribbon. I got my first ribbon stripped from me just a few weeks ago when I got DQd but at least, in my mind, I know everyone liked it. Thats all that metters to me!!!
Still striving to get that first "official" ribbon though! |

not really....starting a whole thread because you can't be bothered to set your clock is "uncalled for". Do you complain at your hotel when they don't set your room clock to whatever Time Zone you just flew in from? After all, that is the "time" you are used to. Do the numerous hotels you visit adjust their Checkout time based on where you just came from?
Come on, lets be realistic here
ETA
I live in MST. I shoot all over North America. I take that into account when I submit my photos... I can do it, why can't you? Sorry that there is a little loophole that burned you, but really, its a rule. Just play by it.
ETA2
SC, I just took some awesome river shots. I accidently set my time to 2 years from now. So, if possible, around August 2014, it'd be great if you had a River Scene Challenge. KTHXBYE

Hmm... I just disagree.
Reason is, every scenario you listed basically supports her premise -- that all things being equal, people tend to just leave things as they are.
This isn't a question of bending to someone's silly wish to do something strange... The girl has been living in Korea, and kept her camera set to that time. *shrug* I don't see the objection as unwarranted.
Hell, I keep my camera in EST all the time, and I'd protest if I was DQ'd for it. Fortunately, I'm pretty sure it'll never cause me a problem because that's the time of the DPC servers... Frankly, I don't want to be bothered with changing it frequently, and I rarely shoot so close to a deadline anyhow.

Heh, I'm not making fun of you really, but this is pretty darn funny, you've gotta see the humor in this chunk of what he wrote - separate from the other, less amusing, bits. |

It seems suspect that the reason this is even a concern is because she had the picture taken so close that the time zone was an issue.
The photo in question was most certainly planned as it appears that she had a model or at least an idea for the shoot in advance......

I do a fair bit of traveling, as well as local photo shoots requiring different settings depending on the client's needs. So I have a checklist I do before/after every shoot, which saves me a whole lotta headache down the road. I make sure my settings are all back to what I want, check the CF card, check the battery level, clean the lens, etc. The whole thing takes about a minute. |

so, essentially, what you are saying is that you act like a professional and do so to negate any ridiculous issues like this? |
