I spoke too soon. Cut off part of my thumb last night, but it was while slicing veggies on the mandolin for my dehydrator. What a spazz. At least I was fast-tracked at emergency, and I much prefer straight-forward injuries to mysterious illnesses.

What? Did you just want to add some legitimacy to my post, or were you simply yearning for some jerky with your dried veggies?
Heh... TOTALLY AWESOME Slippy. Heal fast buddy.

That's gross! Did you pack it in ice? I put my piece of thumb in a zip-lock baggie, but forgot to bring it to the hospital. When I got home, the wife had thrown it out. Rather presumptuous, I thought.

We did but apparently you aren't supposed to pack it on ice, could damage the finger. In any case they wouldn't reattach it because it was a pinky and now we get to make high-four jokes for the rest of eternity so it all works out.

... and a pinky doesn't rate re-attachment? That's the best nose-picking finger. High-four jokes would be pretty funny, though.

Well they said in general they don't do pinkies and ring fingers. I dunno if that was just BS but that's what they said. They also said with the limited control he'd have from the reattachment, that he'd be better off without it, because it would work against his grip (he was a pole vaulter). Guess it all worked out. We bought him the guitar he was wanting to buy the day he lost it, and he later won the college pole vault championships in CA or something like that. Turns out the right pinky is pretty inconsequential. If it had been the left... not so fun for guitar.

That's good. Speaking of right & left, you don't realize how difficult it is adjusting to wiping your butt with the opposite hand after a lifetime. I almost had to call the wife for help! I challenge anybody to give it a try.

LOL. Well I'm a weirdo and quite often try to do things with my left hand like write, brush my teeth, and use chopsticks in the correct way (apparently I use them the wrong way in my right hand, but it works for me). That one... don't think I've tried. Though that was the general protocol when I was living in Haiti for those that used water+hand instead of TP. I was no so brave.

Joey Lawrence uses that method while in Africa and says it's probably more sanitary than the Western method.

Yea I know folks there swore by it. It's probably true when done correctly. Then again... add to that a less than stellar hand washing system and folks that aren't as OCD as me about using that system to the best of their abilities... well things could go wrong.

Africans have stronger constitutions than Westerners. Their systems are just that more used to and immune to basic bugs and disease. Most Europeans who come visit have the trots for a while if they drink local water and eat meat rare. Boil it and burn when in Africa. In any event majority of Africans live under the poverty line and can't afford TP let alone most of the vaccinations and meds that the west has taken for granted for 100 odd years, despite all the WHO and other organisations farting against thunder here with aid.
Joey can afford TP and vaccinations, and if he gets a bad dose of the runs his insurance can fly him out to a Western Hospital.
PS: Moving right along: Bad Luck with the DQ Mev. Mulder... |

The reason folks used water/hand method where I stayed in Haiti was mostly because of sustainability and creating humanure compost (not cost). They didn't want a bunch of possibly toxic TP in the compost mix. They didn't ban it, but they highly encouraged not using TP. I kindly disregarded the request. :P
