I have a Windows 7, 64 bit PC, Photoshop CS6.
I had Camera RAW version 6.7.

Downloaded and installed the update to Camera RAW 7.1.

All was good, it worked fine, but it doesn't "stick", it disappears every time I reboot the computer.
When I come back, I am back to version 6.7 again.

Perhaps I need to try uninstalling version 6.7 first, but I can't even figure out where it lives and how to uninstall it.

Help, please!

This sounds like what you should do. I don't have Windows 7, but I would think "add/remove programs" is still in the control panel?

Yes it is there (these days it is called "Programs and Features"), but I can't find Camera RAW. Not under that name, not under Adobe, not under ACR..... I just can't figure out where it is.

Neither can I. It (ACR) used to live in C:/Program Files/Photoshop Camera Raw, but it doesn't seem to any longer.

Just a wild guess, but I've had lots of issues in Windows 7 that sound kinda similar. Running as admin fixed most of them. If this is just an update ran via CS6, then launch CS6 as admin (right click, run as administrator). Then install your update. If it's a stand alone program (like an .exe) then try the same, running the setup program as admin.

This is part of my confusion. I think it is a standalone program, or I always thought it was, although it "belongs to" Photoshop. But how come I can't find it to un-install it?

ACR really isn't a stand-alone program, and so it won't appear in the add/remove programs list. I'm a little confused, because ACR 6.x should be for CS5.x.
I installed CS6 just after public release and had not updated it since install, and it reported ACR version 7.0 just now; I then ran updates and it updated to 7.1. We'll see if that sticks... I'll re-boot here and see what happens. I'm also running WIn7 64-bit.

ETA: Still 7.1 after restart. So it seems something may be wonky with your installation if it's not sticking.

Anyone have any more suggestions on this as I too wish to load RAW on my computer and would hate to experience the same problems and not have an answer.
