I just ordered a dell inspiron 1150 for work. I have read several reviews that said the graphics card on it is not very good. Will I be able to use this computer for photoshop to edit my pictures? Anyone else have this laptop? How does it work for you? I got the upgrade to 512 mb of ram, so hopefully that will help out a little.

any info. is greatly appreciated.

I use a dell 1100 (samething, older model) with a celeron 2.2GHz, 256MB Ram and a 30 GB Hard Drive. I run Photoshop 7.0 on it quite often. It's not fast, but it does work.

how slow is it? at what points does it get slow? when adding filters? or when opening pictures, or what? sorry to be so ignorant, but you never know if the reviews are based on higher standards than I expect.

thanks.

i use a dell inspiron 8200 laptop, pentium 4 at 1.6Ghz with a Geforce 4 graphics card and 512mb ram and everything runs okay. It takes a couple of second to add filters to 5 megapixel pictures but on smaller sized pictures there is no slow down at all.

Usually the graphics card isn't the issue as much as the monitor when it comes to laptops. Those LCD displays often can't display colors as well as CRTs, and often don't have the same calibration capabilities (excepting the high-end). Most graphics cards today are good enough for output, but differ in their 3d rendering speed (which you don't care about in photo editing).

Unless you're professional, I'd worry more about taking good pictures than having a perfect editing workstation. You can go a LONG way without calibration, and even then you can often get "adequate" calibration for amatuer level imaging through eyeballing.

I have an old Inspiron 3700 (PIII 450, 384mb, ATI 8mb graphics), currently running windows XP, ACDSee and Gimp - runs fine :)
