The market for fine art photography may not be all that small, but fine art photography is incredibly varied. A given artist style may only interest a very small subset of people that like fine art photography. This leaves any give artist with a very small market.

I also think the average Joe has a hard time spending a lot of money on a photo. It's easier for someone to put a high value on a painting because it's something that most people don't think they will every be able to create themselves. For photos many people think you can just point a camera at something and push a button, why should I spend so much money for someone else to push the button?

Sadly it appears to have died on the vine. Last blog was nine months ago, and the yahoo discussion group has zero posts.

Honestly the post sounded like a musician who's goal is to "make a million dollars without selling out". The two are essentially mutually exclusive. SEE: the movie "Dig!"
