ok, well.. I have been trying to take some decent pictures against a WHITE background...but, It doesnt turn out white... it turns out a dingy orangish color..what am I doing wrong? also..which type of lighting should I be using ?? here is what I end up with //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=58456

Looks like you need to set your white balance to incandescent.

what kind of lights are you using? Does your camera have different white balance settings?

I don't know anything about your camera but a lot of digital cameras can have a white balance problem. Go to the link below, it may help.

I dont have "incandescent"

my camera has... Auto, Day Light, Cloudy, Tungsten, Flourecent, Flourecent H, and Custom

it is a Canon Powershot A60.

I believe the kind of light I am using is a "halogen" I could be wrong tho..

Try setting your white balance to Tungsten. The link I posted shows the difference between auto and tungsten.

Auto on the left / Tungsten on the right.

yeah, I seen that...it sort of looks black and white tho, will the main colors still show up in tungsten mode?

The tunsten white balace setting just teels the camera to remove the orange cast that is caused by tungsten (incansescant) lighting. The colors should be fine - and more like the real colors. Your eye has a built-in computer that does the same thing automatically - so you never notice the orange light.
