Hello everybody...my name is Antje and I am a photographer by passion.I am fairly new to this site and do not really fully know my way around yet. I have had some unexpected negative run ins with some of the members of this site which caused me to withdraw from actively participating in this "community" setting.
I have however been observing some of the threads and it occurred to me that this simply cannot be all there is to this site. Every week I see wonderful images submitted to the various challenges. They are all different like the colors of the rainbow and they are works of art in my eyes. Some of DPC's members have their art more perfected than others, but it still is all art to me.
As I was reading through several forum threads I heard more than once the mentioning of DPC being a family for some. Well now....I want to learn more about this family you speak of. I would like you to introduce yourself, maybe share what your favorite subject in photography is and also share why this site is so important for all of us?! To learn and to grow as an artist as those of us who are here have chosen photography as a means of self expression.
This is not meant to be a discussion thread and I will have no problem clicking on that report button. I want to understand why so many of you see this as a family and maybe those who are at odds with each other at this time will remember why they joined in the first place, why photography means so much to all of us and why we all should consider ourselves as part of a family in this environment!?

Might be an idea to rephrase your post as its not very inclusive; dictating what can be posted and threatening to report anything that you don't like, which FYI unless it breaks the forum rules won't be moderated just because you ask it to.
So what I love about this site, I now constantly look for the 'shot' I think about challenges I make notes I get pol together get models etc go to the effort to get the shot rather than before just photographing my life.
I like the way I have learnt and advanced and now really take a moment and pause and think is the composition correct, is my exposure the way I want it not just what the camera sees.
What can I capture to show the doc crowd the beauty of my location, the thrill of the first morning to see how you've started, the d'oh moment when the first comment points out something so obvious you can't believe you've miss it.
Also the people here yo_spiff, bear music, Juliet, jeager, paulbtw, postumus, allenp etc etc .... |

I was going to put in a whole bunch of links to different threads that support the idea of a family coming together, but decided to just do the one link here instead. This area screams 'family', at me, anyway.
Hi y'all! As established elsewhere, my name's Pam :) and I'm pretty new around here too. Gave up smoking, took up photography and haven't saved a cent. I personally think this place is incredible. It's about much more than the challenges. The tutorials are incredibly helpful, but even more so are the occupants of this asylum :) There are so many members here and you can ask for advice about just about anything and someone is going to jump in to help. I don't think I've ever 'met' a group of people so willing to share. Good stuff! |

Long ago in (in the 1980s) I was asked to follow orders and shut up because "we are a brotherhood", and one member of the group pointed out that real brothers often fight like cats and dogs, but have a deeper bond than behaving nicely. We care for each other.
That said, welcome to the family. If you want help, someone can answer your questions. If you need an opinion, oh there are plenty of those. I have found some real friends here, and some include the folks I am likely to be in sharpest disagreement with over in Rant. In short it is a true community of people dedicated to fostering photography, and I have never found it's like elsewhere on the web or out in the real world. |

Hi Antje! Welcome to DPC. I've been here since mid-2008, and if you compare my images from then to more recent ones, well you can see why I adore this place. Not only have I learned huge amounts about technique and equipment, but I've also learned what I like to shoot best, and what I am best at shooting. Also, I have "met" some truly fabulous people, who also happen to be photographers, and some of those electronic friendships have carried on into the "real" world. Regardless of where you live, there is sure to be at least one other DPCer, and it is more fun than you can imagine getting together somewhere for a photo walk. I learned from doing those that no matter how many people shoot the same thing, everyone's images are miraculously different.
I'm really looking forward to watch your growth as an artist. Don't be afraid to reach out for help. I have never been let down when I do. |

Every family has its crazy uncle, and its black sheep. We can fight like cats and dogs, but don't let anyone else sad bad words about our family, or we will stand together and fight them all.
As for my art, well I would have to be an artist to create art. An artist I am not, nor do I pretend to be. I do like infra red photography, likely because I am less bad at that. I seldom photograph people, do to a lack of comfort and willing torture victims.
For every image I make, there are probably 100 others in my head that never get made. If all else fails, I buy another camera.
