I recently got a new work laptop and they have it configured real weired. When I go to open an attachment in Outlook, I get the little pop up box asking if I want to open it or save to disc.

I keep checking the box to open the item, and I keep unchecking the "always ask before opening this type of file". It gets really annoying since I have to do this for EVERY file. its as if the changes I am making are not taking affect.

Is there another "advanced" option I am missing somewhere that will allow me to open the files with out this box poping up all the time.

That 'annoying' feature is supposed to keep your computer from hosing itself. Unless you are dead set on using Outlook or are 'stuck' using it through a workplace, I would highly recomend using something else to fetch and read your email.

Just think of that reminder as a global lesson as to why email readers shouldn't be allowed to open up files, ever. Honestly, you should be forced to save the file to a local drive or network drive, scan it with an anti-virus and then, if you trust the source, open the file. Security-wise, that is your best friend.

right click the attachment and choose - either open - or save from the menu. the attachments should be showing under the email header info.
i would reccomend - saving them - and then opening them as mentioned above.

that will eliminate the pop up.

at least in outlook express it does..

Not sure if this will help, it's been a while since I've needed to use it and can't remember if it will suit you. But, it's used for attachments.

I know that Outlook stops certain attachments, this lets you view them. Can't remember if it also asks you about saving your settings??

I use Outlook at work and when dealing with attachments I have to always save the file. Even if I check open, I get the pop-up window for saving. This could be a security setting.
