I think this would be something of a nice challenge, since purple isn't exactly the most common color, but often results in spectacular photos!

(clearly I think magenta, purple, or any other hue composed of red/blue would be just fine and meet the challenge well)..

Just for clarification about my intent, this should be a basic or minimal editing challenge, with emphasis on technique and color. We've had a slew of Advanced and expert editing lately, let's get back to some simple photography where skill outshines editing.

Now this I can get behind.

My idea behind the set of recent challenge suggestions is to provide a few challenges where we are all very much shooting similar stuff - I know some of you LOVE the fact that we get a rather random assortment of subjects in each challenge, but sometimes it really is nice to have everyone mostly pulling in the same direction, as it tends to really make voting fun, to see what people do with a more narrow challenge...

Personally, I really do think that the most amazing challenges are those that are more fully described, leaving a more structured challenge environment that seems to result in people actually getting MORE creative, while simultaneously making voting both easier (apples to apples, and no more oranges!) and more fun (if only because it's easier)...

People love challenges that appear to be restrictive but are simply a free study in disguise. I think restrictive challenges force people to get creative in order to stand out.

??

You honestly don't think "proverb" is a well defined and restrictive challenge topic do you? I find it to be horribly nebulous, and think it will result in a general mess of photos that are effectively a lightly themed freestudy, with emphasis on title, rather than subject.

Hopefully this time around, unlike euphemisms which was laced with idioms and cliches, people actually know what a proverb is.

Phew... For a second I was worried that you didn't speak English. ;)

Honestly, I think I've just got to get a better feel for your sarcasm sir. :)

for the record i like your challenge proposals, one of the reasons i think I've soured on the current crop is like you said, far to broad. i haven't even felt like voting as most of the entries have been extremely boring lately. we need something to stir up some creativity.

we could use more confinements.

Quite true.

I don't see it on your extensive list of lenses ... :-)

I think I'd have to go the other direction -- my add-on close-up lens seems to have a DOF of a couple of millimeters.

I looked in equipment, but couldn't find anything under Frankenstein brand for the body, or even the 300mm f/2.5 Aero Ektar under Kodak, nor the 600mm f/5.6 Aero Tessar under Bausch and Lomb.

Fun fact, I don't need any closeup lens, I can, in theory, focus as close as I would like, it just might require racking the beast out to 20 feet or so, although, the light loss would be something awful.

Then again, a macro condenser lens would have to be a couple of feet in diameter to actually be effective.

The scale of this whole affair is challenging.

You can submit a ticket with the relevant info (and a photo if possible) and they can be added to the equipment lists. You may have to come up with a more original name for the body though -- I think both Frankenstein and Rube Goldberg are spoken for ...
