Screw it, let's show some real passion here folks.
I keep hearing noise about a 'like' button here..
Meh.. How Facebook... I 'hate' the idea honestly..
And that gave me an idea!!!! Why just a 'like' button? Far too bland for this crowd.
So, what's the solution you ask? (I know, you didn't just ask this at all, because you read the thread subject, and this was a rhetorical question anyway...)
THE 'LOVE IT' BUTTON!
So, come on folks, if you're gonna rally behind something, rally behind something with some passion, instead of the usual PC crap. LOVE IT, or leave it. ;)
ETA: I would add this to the Get Satisfaction site, but honestly I'm just too apathetic to create another account.. (Oh! The irony... ;) )..

How about a 'thumbs up' button. More cool like Fonzie, less cheesy. ;) |

Hmm...
The Fonz was cool.. But.... that still seems a bit pc doesn't it?
Dunno, maybe an "AWESOME" button. Really would be nice to have something different with a real bang to it. Something that you don't really want to press unless you just "HAVE!!!TO!!"..
That's why I like the idea of something out there more than something like a thumbs up, hell I'll give a thumbs up to just about any stupid ol thing if it's half-way ok... Nah, I've got something bigger, something much more bold in mind here, something that carries more weight that that stupid "comment helpful" box we've all been trained to check out of courtesy no matter what the content of the comment.. (not complaining about these, just noting them, keep those strange and sometimes mostly useless comments coming, I'm sure I'll find some value in them, and always enjoy even the most egregious)...
So, any other ideas? I don't 'LOVE' the "LOVE" button, but I 'HATE' the idea of a "LIKE" button, but the idea seems to be gaining some traction, and I'd prefer to steer this ox-cart somewhere useful if it insists on going somewhere in the first place.

If we are talking about changing the "Comment Helpful" box then what about the 'star' system. One sees a five star rating in movies, it is also utilized for rating products at Amazon. One gold star means the comment wasn't helpful - 5 gold stars means very helpful.
Or just ditch the star rating idea and go for a more camera oriented icon we are familiar with. For example:
Zoom out/Zoom in icons(magnifying glass with minus/plus)
Flash icon (lightning bolt with arrow)

Honestly, it's still a good idea. :)
I'm just not sure how to make the star rating idea work in the edgy context I'm proposing...
You know, we all "like" a lot of things, but I just don't care... I only really want to know when you LOVE or Ewwww (is that it? Ewwww?) something.. :)
And thanks, it's good to be back, I've been having a bit of fun in the forums as you can see. :) lol.

we could make the icon a wineglass, that way there would be no confusion as to the purpose of the button. |
