Looking for some constructive feedback on my design portfolio. It includes my photography but only photography used in design (hopefully that makes sense).

I have been working in printing for about 17 years (my entire life outside of college). I have only done design as a side job or as a bit of marketing for the company I am doing prepress for (not my main job my any means).

I am now looking into moving into marketing. Of course, marketing my SELF is the first step here ;)

My strengths are utilized where I am but in a very limited way - and I feel that marketing is a direction that will work for me. But I've been getting OLD working here so I need to make sure I have a fresh portfolio. I've put together a sampling of stuff I've done over the past years and am looking for some feedback. I know a portfolio should be concise so I don't want to include too much but I do have other stuff available.

I don't want to sway the viewer with my words so please provide any constructive feedback you have.
design portfolio

Thanks. Tate

oops just realized the URL was messed up. Fixed.

Thanks!
Is there enough? There's something about the way it is presented that seems ho-hum to me â€Â¦ and I'm not sure if I am confident linking somone to it for stuff representing my work.
Maybe a slide-show format would be better?

slideshow might be better, simpler and cleaner

OK -
I'm not a huge fan of how the slide-show looks but this is a bit more dramatic.
There is also a journal mode where the viewer scrolls down but that ends of being 2 pages, which I don't like.

few things with the new format. the slideshow <> arrows are kind of ugly. can you change those? Second thing is on my browser, the picture selector bar at the top is cutting off the image that's currently being viewed, and it doesn't disappear.

I agree.
I have changed it to Journal mode for now in lieu of custom programming (which could remove thumbnails and arrows).
I also moved a couple of things around to allow everything to fit on one page so there is no extra clicking ncecessary.

LOVE seeing your ducky shot in there. Really great work, Tate. I'm a bit ambivalent about the all-white bg - seems a bit sterile to me. Not sure if it should be colored, or a gradient of some sort. Also, the scrolling down is a turn-off. Most people don't get past the initial home screen shot. Perhaps reduce the size of the Ray Charles graphic a little so that it fits completely in the window. Also, the lighter gray of the fonts is practically invisible on my screen. I like the two tone idea, but perhaps a slightly darker tone for the lighter part? Thanks for sharing.

great stuff!!! but i'm not a fan of trying to use a photo-sharing site as a platform for hosting a business site. it's ok for prototyping, but you should spend some time looking into having your own site.

the thing is, you can spend a lot of time trying to make that site work for you and in the end, you're going to end up sacrificing your needs for their constraints, and there won't be anything you can do about it. on the other hand, with your own site, you are only limited by your imagination, skills, and budget ;-)

I know what you are saying â€Â¦
But I'm actually just trying to make this a portfolio.
In other words, I'm going to be applying for a marketing job - and if someone says "do you have a portfolio?", I send them here. That's it.
