Hi I have this book which i want to scan so that i can read it on computer, something like pdf document found on net that one can down load to read.

Basic aim is to be able to read the book on computer and save it on computer

You can scan the pages and then assemble them with Adobe Acrobat Professional (file size will be massive since they're all jpegs) or you can use a scanning program like OmniPage that will scan the pages, recognize text and save it all as a PDF. This second option will offer a smaller file size but will become a headache when it starts recognizing "I" as "1". Either way you're looking at significant amounts of work.

There may be other programs that offer similar functionality. I just happen to have used both of these in the past.

Acrobat can actually use its own OCR system to convert scans into editable text (I think that's called "Paper Capture." You then have the option of maintaining the underlying image or re-saving as text-only (much smaller file).
