It is not specific to a file. I tried inserting text in several, unrelated files, without success.

I just tried resetting the tool, also no success.

Tried resetting everything, still not working.

Uninstall/reinstall Photoshop?

The computer may be thirsty, open the case and pour in a soda while it is on... That'll fix the problem. (permanently.)

;)

(NOTE: DO NOT follow the above advice...)

do a search for .psp and delete that file, its the preference file. It will be called something along the lines of "Adobe Photoshop X Prefs.psp".

eta, that's for cs6. if yo have another version, search help for reseting tools and it will instruct you how tio delete the preference file.

Just out of curiosity...

Can you get the text selection tool to work?

You could always just do that then use the edit > fill menu item.

LOL! I'm actually feeling like Jane Fonda in "Julia" - the scene where she throws the typewriter out the window...

Cory, how is the text selection tool different? There is no text to "select"...

It creates a selection (marque) that you can then fill, stroke, paste into, or paint.

I know you've shut down and reopened photoshop, but have you shut down and restarted the computer itself? Sometimes that works for me.

Might have been covered but have you tried writing some text in say ms word copying that then pasting that into the text tool rather than typing,

Johanna, you might try Cntl + Alt + Shift + E to create a new layer based on all previous layers, then copy this layer in to a new document then flatten it - there's a chance this might work because I had a similar issue previously, although in my case I *could* add text to all other images but the one I was working on where as it seems you cannot add text to *any* image :(

Have all the files you have tried adding text to been layered images? If so try opening a JPG and using the type tool on that.

The mystery has, um, mysteriously resolved itself overnight. Perhaps I strayed into the Twilight Zone last night...????

LOL! If only...

Actually, I have three different files (I'm creating a gif), and one of them has the "glitch". The other two were just fine. Don't know what the problem is with the one. But there is ALWAYS one problem child....

PS - Deeby. I did send to a friend. Haven't heard back yet.

Sorry. It works fine on this end, no problem getting text in... I thought your issue was resolved, so wasn't hurrying to report back.

Thanks, Bear. There was no hurry after seeing that the other files worked fine. Guess I'll never know what happened to the one!!!
