Having a play around with the CFV (it's been in a box since I got the Fuji) I was thinking I might have to blow the cobwebs off it and start learning how to use the bloody thing.
Was pleased with this. Your comments, good bad or indifferent, are gratefully received.

The b&w grainy image does nothing for her really, I'd like it better maybe if it was pushed further into grainy blurriness.

The full size color one though... Wow. That camera does a really nice job, but I hate to say it - - - I just don't see any real advantage over a nice full frame DSLR in terms of IQ, at least not on this image.

The image that always pops into my head when I think about MF is that of a tree on a dry lake bed, with a nice wide shot and about two feet of DOF in sharp focus... Can't do that one with a DSLR.

So, you tell me MAK, what advantages do you see in this image that I've missed?

Well, I didn't mean to make a comparison between MF & FF. I will try to answer your question best I can.

"In this image" not a great deal of difference after the resize etc and I wasn't really shooting for effect towards making a comparison. I thin MF gives a much better DOF and a much much nicer image than any DSLR that I have owned, the sharpness of Zeiss glass is very nice as is the contrast. I have yet to master how this thing truly works as well. When you see the prints from a MF camera they have a certain feel that DSLR did not manage, for me. I think the main benefit is the lenses and a sensor almost twice the size of a FF DSLR, with only 16MP on my particular back, gives a much better tone & better dynamic range. My back was made in the 90's so it's quite old. The newer MF digital backs are STUNNING!

I merely wanted to show how 2 different edits can change the emotion of a picture, even simple edits like these.

I definitely agree with Cory on this- the color one is way better. The grain on the other one doesn't really add anything for me, and the smoothness of the color and tonal subtlety is taken advantage of much better in the color.

Thanks, great input.

The 'Push' effect of the B&W was trying to replicate film (yeh, im a fossil I used to shoot film & still do)
