Seems to me the intention of the challenge could hardly be clearer. You find a picture among the bottom thousand and create another picture that uses the same/similar subject, theme, title or whatever. If it's scores you want then try to make your picture a higher scoring example. If it's something else you want then try to reinterpret the original in a way that gets you the something else you want. I do not recommend that you try to be more flawless than flawless but hey, it's your choice...

It wouldn't seem so much so if the next challenge is an homage to the Top 1000 (minimal editing please).

That wouldn't be a bad idea! Although if its minimal editing, and a lot of the top 1000 have a lot of editing especially the expert editing photos, then why should it be so?

Why not? This is dpCHALLENGE after all, it'll be more of a challenge to reproduce those top shots without the toys. Most of them could be done, it's only a matter of how crazy you want to get with the setup.

I am thanking God in Heaven, my lucky stars, the cumulative karma of all the ages (well you get the idea) that I'm not in the bottom 1000. But please, pick any of my duds (many to choose from - come one, come all) and improve it!!!!

Would that constitute a DNMC ... well, in the words of Ernestine, "Never mind."

Oh. I guess I misunderstood. Is this something to be ashamed of?

I was just thinking it would be cool to have the lowest score, erm to go offensive or just bad....

Offensive appeals to my twisted sense of humour the most though hehehe

I personally think we should find the most statistically average person, the one right in the middle, with the least highs and lows, and have a challenge to improve or worsen, their images.

do we use the same title as the one that we're honoring, or do we just put it in the notes?

do you take the original challenge topic into consideration, or do you just let the image guide you?

or is this just another eye-candy vote...

I thought about that, but me personally, I will use the title of the photo, to guide what my photo is about, as to the challenge theme, most of them were DNMC anyway!

Well, this challenge makes it easier for me to drift off to other photo website options. I DO have a good sense of humor. It's just out of sync with the current DPC crowd.

What you can't appreciate my lowest scoring image? If you can believe it, even my Hairy photo did not cut it in the bottom 1000.

I do appreciate your image, JunieMoon. My comments were not directed at you in any way.

Used to be I'd enthusiastically participate in each and every challenge, regardless of challenge topic. This increased my range and caused me to develop skills in many areas. Now, the challenge topics trend has been into areas I have no interest... too often. I'm sure it's a market-driven move. I'm pretty sure I'm not the future market demographic of DPC. The balance and creativity motivations have been blunted. Time to move on, for me. Frankly, it's selfishness on my part. The DPC challenge topics are no longer providing the stimulus to develop as a photographer. Life is too short to wait and see if the ship rights itself.

Not sure if you have to adopt the exact title... I read it as taking visual "inspiration" from the image you have chosen.

the issue i take with this challenge is the title, why are we paying homage to what are mainly a mockery of the spirit of this site?

Exactly my sentiments, too. This challenge is beyond the pale.

And this is why my participation is waning. I went out of my way to shoot a decently composed photo which met the challenge and because there are too many pruds around here, it was blessed with the honour of the 34th worst photo. Every other photo in the bottom 50 is either terrible or doesn't meet the challenge in the loosest of definitions. Glad to know people have open minds around here.

edit - Not only that, it was taken in a bar at night without flash, not exactly the easiest of lighting situations.

i have no issue with the content, however that image really isn't very appealing to me. higher production value would have helped although yes, with the vulgar content im not sure how much, at least one would have been able to justify a high score, which i wouldn't have in its current form.

dont take it the wrong way but looks like something i would enter just to enter. you say you went out of your way to shoot a decently composed photo but honestly it doesn't show.

Fair enough. I guess I was simply irate because photos without any actual birds in them, real or metaphorical, finished higher.

There's been 277,374 entries to challenges and I find it hard to believe mine really warrants to be the 34th worst photo of all time

I imagine the title is meant in jest.
